We're getting closer to making the final car movements!
P.C.C.M. 50 is winding down across the three northeastern layouts with Sir Neal's A.P.R.R. completing it's portion and Ralph's K.P.D. nearing completion of its car movements.
We pick up the action today with the Bedford Local departing from Terminal Yard to work the local industries and make a transfer run to the Empire Belt RR's North Side Yard.
The B.L.'s first stop is to spot these two empty PC PS-2 hoppers for loading with locomotive sand for the A.P.R.R. engine terminal
Next stop is the Bedford Hostess Plant
Where this covered hopper loaded with flour from Cargill in Rock Ridge NJ is spotted for unloading
Moving down the line the Bedford Local is ready to exchange cars at Heileman's Brewery. The B&M RBLs have been reloaded with cases of beer for Reynolds Beverage Distributors in Kings Port NY
The Local spots the IC 40' boxcar loaded with soda from Woodstock Hills, TP&W 40' boxcar loaded with shipping boxes from Canton Box and NYC 40' Hi Cube boxcar loaded with empty tall neck bottles from Corning Glass
The Local passes Bedford Tower and a tired 1/87th scale John B
The Local heads thru Empire City towards North Side Yard
1/87th scale Larry D is doing the honors of the roll by inspection at Hohman Ave as the Local arrives in North Side Yard
The Empire Belt guys get right to work pulling the caboose and the EL 57' reefer off the rear of the Local.
The Local's SW8s come off the industrial track to reclaim their train in the background and their caboose in the foreground.

Back at Terminal Yard with the two BM 50' RBLs loaded with beer for Reynolds Beverage in Kings Port NY among it's freight consist.
The yard job has pulled the BM RBLs from the Local and has blocked them in with the cars heading to West Mill in a future P.C.C.M.
The yard job pulls the six empty hoppers that came from RMO Electric in Rock Ridge NJ and will shove them over to the empty coal hopper track for future loading at Hudson Coal.
We'll wrap it up here for today with the L.I.R.R. transfer run heading thru Bedford towards North Side Yard to make the final interchange of P.C.C.M.50 freight cars.

With all the traffic in this series we're seeing another exchange and turnaround move, this time at Heliemans where business must be good! SW8s did a fine job handling this work!

DeleteThanks for the compliments Ralph! The SW8s have worked very nicely and are enjoying their time in the limelight. Heilemans is taking over the Schaefer motto this series, "The one beer to have when you're having more than one"! Couldn't do that w/o the shipments from West Mill needed to get the process rolling and the empty boxcars to get the beer to market.

The freight traffic continues in and around Empire City. One of my favorite buildings is the Hostess Plant. I remember driving by the Wonder Bread plant in Jamaica, NY in the 70's. It was near another iconic local factory that both my father and I worked for, Martin Paint.

The Bedford local is earning it's keep with this series. John B and Larry are going to need escalators installed at their towers for all of the run by checks. Your Hostess plant brings back memories of the visits my Mom and I would make at their factory store. The freshest raisin bread ever.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brian!! The railroading on the N.Y.C.T.L. has been intense this series. Most of my trains have run daily like their 1:1 prototypes! Hostess was a great idea that came from 1:1 Sir Neal and ushered in the 1/87th sale Sir Neal era on the N.Y.C.T.L.!
