P.C.C.M. 50G / Arrival of trains at Terminal Yard

Greetings All,

Welcome back to the Penn Central Car Movement 50 series!!

This series has truly been a coast to coast endeavor with freight and express cars traveling from California to New York. Be sure to check the blog sites of the P.C.C.M. 50 participants to see how we move cars across the country without any of them actually leaving our respective train rooms. Here's the links from West to East; L.F.& N.W., R.C.R. and the K.P.D.

We've just received word from A.P.R.R. management that their mainlines are now open and outbound trains are being dispatched from Rock Ridge Yard as we speak!

We start with the calm before the storm at Terminal Yard. The 3rd trick switcher has the yard ready to receive the expected inbound traffic. First train due in at 7:00 PM is Train VN-4  that originated in Selkirk and contains freight cars from the Kings Port Division.
It's about 6:45 PM and VN-4 is getting a highball at Bedford Tower from tower operator 1/87th scale John B.
These engines look familiar! Could be they came off of Train WMV-1 out of West Mill! With almost 500 GP38/38-2s on the roster these engines can be found system wide.
VN-4 rolling thru Bedford towards Terminal Yard with an orange C GP40 rounding out the consist.
VN-4 arrives at Terminal Yard on time!
The power has cut off from the train and his heading into the engine terminal.
Yard Switcher A gets right to work pulling the caboose from VN-4
VN-4 has been cut so as not to block the access road. The switcher is shoving the caboose towards the caboose tracks.
A large block of cars from ACME Auto Parts in Mayfield NY for Bedford Park Ford are shoved into track 6
A block of cars for the L.I.R.R are shoved into track 4.
The switch crew grabs the rest of VN-4 while a refrigerated trailer takes on diesel fuel in the foreground.
Meanwhile Train NY-4 is bearing down on Terminal Yard getting a highball from Bedford Tower operator 1/87th scale John B.
Heading thru Bedford NY on it's last leg before Terminal Yard NY-4 has a classic Alco lash up and an appropriated CB&Q F3 from Elkhart. Looks like the accountants are balancing the power pool miles.

NY-4 pulls into Terminal Yard a little after 8:00 PM making it on or close to schedule.

With NY-4 now in the yard the switch crew gets back to work on VN-4 pulling these 2 BM RBLs from Corning Glass in Corning NY with new bottles for Heileman Brewery in Bedford NY.
The switch crew spots two empty tables from West Mill on the T.O.F.C. track. NY-4 sits to the left waiting to be worked.
The switch crew is blocking Train EC-1 that will head out to the Empire Belt's North Side Yard with cars for Empire City industries and interchange with the Long Island Railroad.
Switching activity comes to a temporary halt as an Amtrak train led by a PC E8A arrives on track 1.
The switcher is now at work on Train NY-4 pulling this block of cars from Galesburg and Elkhart back thru the lead to be blocked.
Cars for the L.I.R.R. from NY-4 are shoved onto EC-1.The three 40' reefers will be heading over to Terminal Warehouse & Cold Storage located within the yard limits.
The 40' Reefers being spotted at Terminal Warehouse and Cold Storage. Morell Meat products, Palisade Peaches and Rocky Ford melons from Denver will be stored and used for local distribution. The people of Empire City will be eating good!
Three stock cars from UP Train Extra 53 East that came in on NY-4 are shoved towards a designated stock yard track.
The block of cars for the L.I.R.R. continues to grow with these two 57' reefers with California produce from Extra 53 East / NY-4
A string of empty express reefers returning from California via UP Train Extra 53 East and PC Train NY-4 are shoved into track 2.
A pair of SW8's couple onto the Express Cars to hustle them over to Empire City Station and the Railway Express Agency.
We'll end it here for today. Follow ups showing the deliveries of these freight cars to their respective consignees and interchanges will be posted during the week. Stay tuned!!
Thanks for reading!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

Nice work in and around Terminal Yard! There's never a slow down at Terminal Yard, whether trains are being made up (NY-4 & EC-1) or trains heading to or from Selkirk.

The coffers should be overflowing on the revenue rolling in to the N.Y.C.T.L. bank account!

    West Mill out.

Great to see the same GP38/38-2 consist on VN-4, and the pooled power with the CB&Q F3 on NY-4 was a nice touch! Lots of freight cars to manage at Terminal Yard but the switchers seem to have them well in hand. Your recent ballasting work looks great in these scenes!

Acknowledge the arrival of Penn Central Trains VN-4 and NY-4 from Selkirk.

    Elkhart out!

Lots of great train action arriving on the NYCTL with trains VN-4 and NY-4. Really cool to see a virtual coast to coast exchange of rolling stock and deliveries. I hope the folks in Empire City enjoy the fresh food from the Western markets. Nice touch with the Q cab unit working off some pool miles. Really great start to the second half of PCCM 50!

Thanks for the compliments Brian! The citizens of Empire City are looking forward to enjoying their western market goodies. I thank you for allowing the Q cab to get some run time. The only time I actually run it is when we go coast to coast with the virtual ops.
