Penn Central Car Movements #81 / N.Y.C.T.L. Part 6 / PC Trains BT-27 and EC-1

 Greetings All,

Welcome back to Penn Central Car Movements #81!!!

This virtual op is once again a three layout affair with my N.Y.C.T.L. interchanging freight cars with PC Ralph's Kings Port Division and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR. The inbound portion continues today.

We open up with Penn Central Train BT-27, the Bedford Turn, leaving Terminal Yard to work the Bedford industries.

 
The trio of GP7s have pulled an eight car block from BT-27 down Main 1 to clear the turnout into T&R Gravel and muscle the cars back up the grade.
 
Being spotted at T&R Gravel are empty EL boxcar #73510 and NYC boxcar #47062 for loads of bagged iron ore to be delivered to Port Owen Brick in a future PCCM.

Four empty PC PS-2 covered hoppers are spotted for loads of locomotive sand to be delivered to the APRR Richmond Hill Engine Terminal in a future PCCM.

Empty PRR and NYC hoppers are spotted for loads of ballast to be delivered to the Kings Port Division in a future PCCM.

The work at T&R Gravel completed the BT-27 is on the Bedford Secondary to work the local industries.

The BT-27 backs into the siding to make the long pull.

The siding now clear the loaded boxcars are pulled off the caboose. TPFX boxcar #5510 brings up the rear of a four car block for University Millwork

Three B&M RBLs loaded with veneers from Eastern States Plywood and TPFX #5510 loaded with wood products from Triangle Pacific are spotted at University Millwork.

PC boxcar #229036 loaded with bulk cardboard from International Paper is spotted at Berk Enterprises.

PC boxcar #360158 loaded with bagged flour from Blue Ribbon Flour is spotted at the Hostess Plant. This is a timely delivery as a broken processing machine left the Hostess covered hopper with flour from the Rock Ridge NJ Cargill unable to be unloaded. A new machine was delivered in that NYC boxcar and both cars should resume their PCCM cycles in the next PCCM. 

Next stop for BT-27 is the Schaefer Brewery to pull a group of boxcars loaded with the most important flavor in this man's world.

Being spotted at Schaefer are TP&W boxcar #627 loaded with shipping boxes from Canton Box and empty IC boxcar #30130 and BAR boxcar #5226 for their next PCCM loads.

The switch work in Bedford completed the GP7s get held on the Bedford Secondary for this work train returning to Terminal Yard.

The work train is part of the metro division's community outreach program that hires teens to clear snow and ice from the stations and parking lots on Sundays so all is ready for the Monday morning commuters.  

The work train has cleared the main and the GP7s make their runaround move. 

The BT -27 is back together and ready to depart.

BT-27 returns to Terminal Yard.

Alco Joe brings the power for the final train of the day, Train EC-1, out of the engine terminal and heads towards its freight consist.

EC-1 gets a highball at Bedford Tower.

EC-1 arrives at North Side Yard.

Alco Joe has turned the train over to the Empire Belt RR and chats with the Empire Belt trainmen as he reclaims his conductor and caboose. The consensus is this has been a heckuva virtual op!

We'll cut it here for today with Alco Joe heading back to Terminal Yard caboose lite.

We'll pick it up and close it out tomorrow with the Empire Belt RR making their deliveries and the interchange of freight cars with the Long Island RR.

Penn Central Car Movements #81 / N.Y.C.T.L. Part 5 / Terminal Yard and Bedford Park Yard Jobs

Welcome back to Penn Central Car Movements #81!!!

This virtual op is once again a three layout affair with my N.Y.C.T.L. interchanging freight cars with PC Ralph's Kings Port Division and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR. The inbound portion continues today.

Big Mike pulls the caboose off Extra 2228 that came in yesterday afternoon as Kar Knocker stands by to inspect the train.

Inspection complete and blue flag removed Big Mike has coupled onto the long freight consist and asks Kar Knocker to uncouple the consist after the TOFC cars.
 
Kar Knocker has done his job and Big Mike delivers four TOFC cars from the KP&W's Williams Yard to the Terminal Yard TOFC ramp. To the right is the other half of the Extra 2228 freight consist. Looking around there are PCCM cars as far as the eye can see!!!!

Big Mike is working with the LIRR block. EBRR boxcar #360279 will be heading to Nassau Community College (Turnpike Tech) with a load of business machines from IBM.

TPFX boxcar 5510 loaded with wood products from Triangle Pacific is blocked with B&M RBLs 105, 109 and 110 loaded with wood veneers from Eastern States Plywood for later four car delivery to University Millwork in Train BT-27.

Big Mike continues working the Extra 2228 freight consist.

The Yard work is now done and out local trains are blocked for delivery. The engine terminal switchers have come to collect GM&O boxcar #21129 loaded with lube oil from the Gulf River facility.
 
The boxcar of lube oil is delivered to the shop. A rebuilt EMD prime mover is being loaded in the background for delivery to the KP&W at Williams Yard in a future PCCM. 

It's time to check in with Robert R working the Bedford Park Yard Job, conferring with the Bedford Towerman and preparing to depart for Terminal Yard with Train BP-12.

Robert R brings the BP-41 into Terminal Yard.

Robert R has coupled up to the outbound cars and prepares to return to Bedford Park as Train BP-41.
 
BP-41 heads back to Bedford Park Yard
 
The first cars from BP-41 are being spotted at the Ford Plant Steel Track with loads of steel coils from Kings Port Steel.

Robert R brings a cut from BP-41 into the tight confines of Bedford Park for his runaround move.

Runaround move completed Rock Island boxcar #35062 loaded with TVs from Zenith is shoved into All City Storage for unloading and  distribution to local outlets.

The other cars from the cut are placed out of the way in the tiny yard.

The second cut of cars from BP-41 are pulled into Bedford Park. The PRR, NYC and EBRR boxcars are loaded with auto parts from IDEAL Auto Parts in Rock Ridge NJ.

Robert R will bring the large cars past the turnout for another runaround move. 

The oversized cars are then shoved into the Ford Plant and the assembly lines will run for another few days.

The work at Ford done, Robert R heads back to the yard to retrieve these two boxcars.

Empty PC boxcar 272742 is spotted for its next PCCM load of bulk hardware for Peerless Appliance in Mayfield NY.

We'll close it out here for today with the PCCM 81 work at Bedford
 Park Yard completed.

Penn Central Car Movements #81 / N.Y.C.T.L. Part 4 / The Inbound Trains Begin To Arrive

Welcome back to Penn Central Car Movements #81!!!

This virtual op is once again a three layout affair with my N.Y.C.T.L. interchanging freight cars with PC Ralph's Kings Port Division and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR. Today we get the inbound portion started.

We open up with Extra 6533 that originated in Weehawken Yard  rolling thru Empire City towards Terminal Yard.

After being cut from the train the U28C is brought to the fuel pad. 

Our next train coming in is Extra 3175 that originated in Rock Ridge Yard on the APRR. The train is entering the Empire City High Line as it heads to Terminal Yard.

Extra 3175 arrives at Terminal Yard with seven gondolas of pipe from Shapeless Steel in Rock Ridge NJ. The 3175 is one of sixteen PC GP40s (3170-3185) delivered in October 1968 with an orange C.

Extra 3175 spots it's train on the #8E receiving track for the Pier 16 switcher to pick up and take to the pier.

The GP40 joins the U28C at the fuel rack. Not a bad looking lash up!

Next we catch Big Mike gathering the inbound cabooses and Kar Knocker preparing to blue flag the train for inspection. TPFX 5510, the very first virtual ops car was tacked onto Extra 6533s consist at Selkirk.

Later on we catch Big Mike tacking a transfer caboose on the Gondolas that came in on Extra 3715.

The Pier 16 Switcher is coupled up and prepares to take the gondolas to the Pier for loading onto a ship for export as Kar Knocker prepares to pull the blue flag from the 6533 consist.

The Pier 16 Switcher pulls the train into the tunnel connecting the yard to the 12th Ave running track and the pier.

Over at Terminal Yard Big Mike starts to sort the 6533 freight cars.

Also being classified are these PCCCM empties that were left in the yard at the end of the inbound portion. 

Three cars of auto parts from IDEAL Auto Parts in Rock Ridge NJ are  shoved into track #3 for delivery to the Bedford Park Ford Plant. AP boxcar #58260 loaded with furniture frames from Mike's Lumber and a six car block PC / AP hoppers are shoved into track #4 for later delivery to Empire City industries.

Empty PC Hi Cube boxcar #272742 is spotted for delivery to American Hardware in Bedford park for it's next PCCM load. Empty EL and NYC boxcars are on the head end of Train BT-27 for delivery to T&R Gravel for their next PCCM loads.

Several hours later PC Hi Cube #272747 is spotted for the Pier 16 Switcher to pick.

The Pier 16 crew has returned from the docks and couples onto the PC Hi Cube.
 
The empty PC Hi Cube joins a pair of empty NYC double door boxcars at Bruce Electric Equipment awaiting their next PCCM loads.  

Later in the afternoon Extra 2228 out of West Mill on the Kings Port Division rolls thru Empire City towards Terminal Yard

GP30 #2228 brings the train into the yard tall and proud.

The long train with freight cars from the PC West Mill Yard and KP&W  Williams Yard eases down the arrival departure track.

A six car block for interchange with the Long Island RR brings up the rear of the train with a NYC caboose carrying the markers.

We'll cut it here today with our inbound trains in the yard and the 2228 and companion ex PRR F7s spotted at the fuel rack.

We'll pick it up tomorrow with Kar Knocker and Big Mike getting the inbound trains moving out to their next destinations.
