Penn Central Car Movements #98 Part 3 / Dispatch of Outbound Train

  Greetings All,

Welcome back to Penn Central Car Movements #98!!!

The two layout virtual op with my NYCTL layout interchanging HO scale freight traffic with Ralph's Kings Port Division concludes today with the LIRR making its PCCM debut and the dispatch of our outbound train.

LIRR Train MA-3 from Fresh Pond Yard rumbles into Bedford with two new Alco C420s making their PCCM debut.

The LIRR MA-3 rolls thru Bedford and into North Side Yard.

The C420s have cut from their train and comeback thru the yard to couple up to their outbound freight cars waiting on the right.

The EBRR guys get another view of the new C420s heading toward the head end of the Long Island bound freight cars.

LIRR engineer Jimmy Alco makes his 2023 PCCM debut and checks in with the EBRR guys. Jimmy likes the new C420s even though the cabs have a tendency to fill with smoke. The LIRR guys have given him the moniker Smokey Alco.

Jimmy Alco brings LIRR Train MA-4 out of North Side Yard.

LIRR Train MA-4 heads back to Fresh Pond Yard

Over at the Terminal Yard Shop a forklift operator is busy loading empty 55 gallon drums going back to Gulf in West Mill, NY into GM&O boxcar #21129.

Over in the yard Alco Joe and conductor Murray get ready to take Train BT-27 to Bedford.

Train BT-27 departs Terminal Yard and heads into Bedford, NY.

The BT-27 begins working the Bedford industries.

The BT-27 couples onto a pair of boxcars at Berk Enterprises. LV/NIRX #41000 is loaded with printed cartons for Blue Ribbon Flour in Kings Port, NY. TP&W boxcar #627 is loaded with printed labels for Van Winkle Canning in Bloomberg, NY.

Next stop is Neubaum's Coffee & Tea Importers. The BT-27 couples up to IC boxcar #30130 loaded with imported teas for Cavendish Food & Spirits in Mayfield, NY. A commuter and conductor Murray exchange waves as we remember the times when people waved at the trainmen instead of throwing rocks at them.

Now working the Schaefer Brewery siding the BT-27 couples up to that sharp looking non PCCM Schaefer boxcar(a gift from 1:1 ATJOE) and the 40' Hoschston Railroad boxcar. Both are loaded with the one beer to have when having more than one. The HRC boxcar is heading to Reynolds Beverage in West Mill NY.

The BT-27 has finished its work and is coupled back together.

Alco Joe checks in at Bedford Tower. The PC local train crews know the dispatcher and yard master will hold them here for traffic to exit Terminal Yard to make space for inbound freight traffic.

A hotshot COFC/TOFC Train passes Bedford Tower.

Alco Joe couples up to the headend of the train and pumps up the air to take what is now train BT-28 back to Terminal Yard.

Train BT-28 heads back to Terminal Yard.

Train BT-28 arrives in Terminal Yard under the watchful eye of the Kar Knocker.

Big Mike has coupled his Trainmaster onto the BT-28 caboose and waits with Kar Knocker for the Yard A switcher to clear the tracks.

The Yard A switcher is over at the engine terminal coupling up to the GM&O boxcar #21129 loaded with empty 55 gallon drums for Gulf in West Mill, NY.

The Yard A switcher pulls a cut of five empty coil coaches from the Pier 16 tracks. The five car block is going back to Kings Port Steel.

The Yard A switcher brings the cut of cars to Terminal Yard.

It's time to turn the op over to Big Mike to build our outbound train, TY-2, that will take our PCCM freight cars to Selkirk for further movement to Ralph's Kings Port Division.

Big Mike shoves a blocked and ready Train TY-2 into the arrival-departure track. The empty BAR and PC boxcars are being held at Terminal Yard to be prepped for their next local PCCM loads.

Engine hostler Wet Willie has delivered and coupled up the TY-2 power and Kar Knocker has cleared the train for departure.

Train TY-2 departs Terminal Yard and heads for Selkirk.

Next stop Selkirk!!!

This concludes the outbound portion of PCCM 98 on the NYCTL. The virtual operations will resume next Friday as the outbound freight cars get past the Selkirk hump and arrive on our layouts to start the inbound portion.

Be sure to catch the action on PC Ralph's Kings Port Division!!!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

Very impressive debut on the pair of LIRR Alco C420 engines! I’m sure Jimmy ‘Smokey’ Alco will enjoy the ride! That COFC/TOFC looked very impressive rolling thru Bedford! Great moves from Yard A and Pier 16 for the eventual departure from Terminal Yard

    Excellent job Sir John!

    West Mill out.

While I saw a intro to the new LIRR C420s before, it was very nice to follow their debut in a PCCM! They are handsome looking locomotives despite the smokey cabs! Nice sound effects in the video featuring these units! I liked the forklift loading scene with the oil drums and the GM&O car. I noted the great looking stacked lumber load on BT-27! Big Mike would commiserate with Conductor Murry's sentiments regarding receiving waves from passerby instead of having to dodge rocks! The good old days, I guess. The Schaefer car gift from ATJOE is a sharp looking piece of rolling stock! As I read through your installment i kept looking for the Beeliner. Sure enough, there it was at the end! Tradition!
Excellent and enjoyable post all around!
