Penn Central Car Movements #96 Part 4 / The Inbound Cycle Begins

 Greetings All,

Welcome back to Penn Central Car Movements #96!!!

It's time for the Inbound!!!

Our 96th virtual op with PC Ralph's Kings Port Division and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR interchanging freight cars with my New York Central Layout continues today with the beginning of our Inbound Cycle.

We open up at Bedford Tower with Penn Central Train TY-4 from Selkirk heading to Terminal Yard. Lead engine #3007 is ex NYC #3007 delivered to the NYC in December, 1965.

Train TY-4, heavy with tonnage from the APRR, KPD and KP&W, rolls thru Bedford NY.

The TY-4 enters Terminal Yard.

The TY-4 motive power has cut from the train and is brought to the fuel rack. GP40 #3180 is one sixteen units (3170-3185) delivered in October, 1968 to wear the very rare orange C.

Big Mike is out to pull the caboose and Kar Knocker gets ready to blue flag and inspect the TY-4 freight consist. The ex PRR SD9s are part of a 25 unit order delivered to the PRR between November 1957 and January 1958. Originally numbered 7600-7625 they were renumbered 6900-6924 for the PRR-NYC merger.

While the TY-4 freight consist is inspected Big Mike sets the field for building our local freight trains.

Train MR-1 is set up on Track #5 with five empty PCCM APRR hoppers on the headend going to T&R Gravel and six empty PCCM hoppers from Tri Mount Cement going to Hudson Coal bringing up the rear.

Big Mike sets up the Bedford Turn, Train BT-27, on track #7. The freight profile consists of four PCCM freight cars held at Terminal Yard for local loading and five loaded PCCM cars from Train TY-4.

Train BP-41(Terminal Yard - Bedford Park Yard) is set up on track #6. Three PCCM Gulf tank cars loaded with diesel fuel from the Gulf River Facility join a PCCM P&LE boxcar held to fulfill an empty PCCM car request and an empty C&O boxcar added as an additional buffer to protect the crew in the caboose.

Five PCCM Evans Coil Coaches loaded with steel coils from Kings Port Steel and two PCCM EBRR 40' boxcars loaded with canned food from ShopRite in Rock Ridge, NJ are placed on track #8 for pick up and movement to Yard A. In the upper right PCCM GM&O boxcar #21129 is placed on track #9 for movement to the engine terminal.

A pair of Baldwin S12s have come from the engine terminal to pick up the GM&O boxcar loaded with lube oil from the Gulf River Facility. 21 S12s were delivered to the NYC in 1951 and 1952. Originally numbered 9308-9328 they were renumbered 8092-8112 for the merger. They renumbered yet again to make room on the roster for the new PC GP38-2s.

The much needed PCCM boxcar of 55 gallon drums of lube oil is spotted at the Terminal Yard engine shop.

The Yard A switcher brings a cut of non PCCM cars from the Pier 16 Grain Silos and Yard A to Terminal Yard. The 9608 is one of 28 EMD SW8s delivered to the NYC in February, 1953. The 9608 awaits its PC number of 8308.

Empty non PCCM home road NYC boxcars are placed on the head end of the BP-41 freight consist to act as buffers between the locomotive and tanks cars.

The Yard A switcher moves the PCCM freight cars towards Pier 16 and Yard A with the caboose protecting the shove move.

The five PCCM Evans Coil Coaches loaded with steel coils from Kings Port Steel are shoved to Pier 16 for unloading and export.

The two PCCM EBRR boxcars with canned food from ShopRite are placed in Yard A pending movement to Consolidated Grocery Warehouse. Four empty PCCM TP&W boxcars on track #1 need to be placed there first for their next PCCM loads.

The Yard A switcher starts working the Terminal Warehouse & Cold Storage complex. The four empty PCCM TP&W cars are needed for PCCM loading at Consolidated Grocery Distributors in Building #3.

The four empty PCCM TP&W boxcars are spotted at Consolidated Grocery Warehouse for their PCCM loads. The Yard A switcher will bring the non PCCM freight cars back to Yard A.

It's time to check in with engineer Robert R at Bedford Park Yard. Ex NYC RS1 #9909 is once again todays Bedford Park Yard power. The 9909 originally NYC 8109, is one of 14 such Alco units delivered to the NYC in March, 1948.

After several runaround moves empty PCCM boxcars PC #160502 and RI #35062 that were held at Bedford Park Yard are spotted at American Hardware Supply for their next PCCM loads.

With the yard work done Robert R brings Train BP-12 out of Bedford Park towards Bedford Tower and Terminal Yard.

Train BP-12 heads to Terminal Yard.

We'll cut it here for today with the BP-12 rolling into Terminal Yard.

We'll pick it up tomorrow with Robert R bringing Train BP-41 back to Bedford Park Yard.

Be sure to follow the action on Ralph's Kings Port Division and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR.

Thanks for reading and watching!!!
See you tomorrow!!!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

A great start to this inbound PCCM. Those people looking on at Bedford station watching TY-4 roll by with the mixed freight must have been impressed by the massive length of the train. 26 freight cars!! I see there’s a string of PRR passenger cars sitting in the yard. Can’t wait to see them in action! Some good looking action all around Terminal Yard!

    Great work Sir John!

More long trains in this series! TY-4 was an impressive combination of PCCM cars from the APRR and the KPD! The two former PRR SD9s had their work cut out for them breaking down the train. I liked the set up of the various locals with their respective cabooses ready. The Yard A/ Pier 16 work continues to be operationally interesting and a great source for additional car movements! Good job remembering to place buffer cars in front of the Gulf tankers and the locomotives! Like Neal, I noticed the Pennsylvania "varnish" in the background with the E8 at the head end. Very nice!

      Thank you Ralph!!!
Good eye catching the PRR varnish!! I believe it heads to Empire City Station in the next installment. Yard A and Pier 16 are finally getting used and it has been fun with the added train moves. While it may not be prototypical "setting the field" with the cabooses looks cool and works the best for Terminal Yard.
