P.C.C.M. 65 / NYCTL Part 3

Greetings All,

Welcome back to the P.C.C.M. 65 Series!!!

We'll wrap up our outbound portions today with the Yard Job making pickups, setouts and building outbound Penn Central Train LS-1 (Empire City NY to Elkhart IN). Let's get started!

1/87th scale Alco Joe and conductor Murray have been called for today's Yard Job being powered by two Alcos and a Baldwin.
The Yard Job starts by working the freight cars brought to Terminal Yard earlier by Empire Belt Train EB-2.
The hind end of EB-2 has been placed on track #3 and the head end is being pulled for placement on track #4.
Next move for the Yard Job is to grab the boxcars brought in earlier on BT-27 and to pick up the three cars on the TOFC track.
1/87th scale Alco Joe is using the whole yard and shuffling the cars like a Vegas card dealer. That's a good thing, there is a lot to do!
The Yard Job heads over to the Terminal Warehouse & Cold Storage building to pick up empty SPFE and BRMX reefers for return to their respective shippers in Denver CO.
Also being pulled out will be empty MILW 40' boxcar that will head back empty to the MILW via Elkhart.
After shuffling the cars at Terminal Warehouse the Yard Job shoves into the caboose track to couple a caboose up to the MILW boxcar that will be the on the tail end of LS-1. It won't be that transfer caboose!
Back in the yard it's time to put Train LS-1 together as block 4 starts to take shape. The empty BMRX reefer is going back to the Denver Union Stockyards and the SPFE reefer is going back to the Denver Fruit Market for reloading on Brian's RCR layout.
The empty WP 40' bulk sugar boxcar is going back to Great Western Sugar in Denver for reloading on Brian's RCR layout.
LS-1 Block 3 is coupled up to Block 4. Going to the KP&Ws Williams Yard are PC gon #288673 loaded with pipe for the Hudson Valley Ag CoOp and the three TOFC cars for the Williams Yard ramp.
LS-1 block 2 gets shoved into track #4 and coupled to block 3. PC boxcar #77047 is loaded with pallets for Reynolds Beverage in Kings Port NY.  The G.M.&O. box car and PC depressed flat need to go to Bruce Electric Equipment on the other side of the yard.
The Yard Job grabs the nine covered hoppers from EB-2 that will be going to the Pier 16 Grain Silos and the storage track.
The Yard Job shoves past Bruce Electric and E.P.A Power Plant #3.
The nine hoppers shoved into the Grain Silos holding track include three PC hoppers being held until the line from Weehawken to the A.P.R.R. Rock Ridge Yard reopens in PCCM 66.
The Yard Job drops the G.M.& O. boxcar and PC flatcar here for the Pier 16 switcher to shove into Bruce Electric Equipment.
1/87th scale Alco Joe is back building outbound Train LS-1 and pulls these four loaded boxcars from the back of track #6.
Still working on LS-1 Block 2, B&M RBLs #109 and #110 loaded in PCCM 64 with beer for Reynolds Beverage are coupled to PC #77047 also going to Reynolds Beverage with a load of pallets.
EL boxcar #73510 loaded with burlap bags and TP&W boxcar #627 loaded with steel wool mesh going to Boom's Ready Mix in Kings Port NY complete LS-1 block 2.
LS-1 block 1 is coupled on and just makes it past the clearance point on track #4. PC boxcars #360063 and #229046 loaded with printed labels in PCCM 64 are heading to Van Winkle Canning. PC boxcar #360158 is loaded with cabinets for Zenith TV. Both consignees are located in Bloomberg NY.
Back over at the Pier 16 side the switchers have coupled up to the G.M.& O. boxcar and PC flatcar.
The G.M.&O. boxcar and PC flatcar are delivered to Bruce Electric Equipment for their PCCM loads. Loaded LFNW 160 and the UP boxcar will be heading out to Edison Electric in Bay City CA on  John's B's LF&NW layout.
The pair of GP40s powering LS-1 today have coupled on. The terminal air test is completed and they have clearance to depart.
LS-1 threads its way thru Bedford NY passing an empty coal extra waiting to get into Terminal Yard.

LS-1 passing Bedford Station

Next stop Selkirk!!!
That concludes the NYCTLs PCCM 65 outbound installments. We'll pick it up next weekend with the inbound trains arriving at Terminal Yard and getting to their respective destinations.

P.C.C.M.65 / NYCTL Part 2

Greetings All,

Welcome back to the P.C.C.M. 65 Series!!!

Today we continue our virtual op with
1:1 PC Ralph's Kings Port Division

We pick up the action at the Empire Belt's North Side Yard with the EBRR trainmen discussing the power to tonnage ratio for the heavy outbound transfer train to Terminal Yard known as train EB-2. 1/87th scale PC Ralph wants to add another engine to make sure he has enough power to get up the grade to Terminal Yard. Conductor John however says don't break up the other power set, take them all!
As the interim yard master and senior engineer in charge 1/87th scale PC Ralph quickly approved using the FA-FB-FA motive power set and he's bringing it around to couple up to the front of train EB-2.
The power for EB-2 is ready. The guys have elected to have the Alcos set in the trailing position for the trip to Terminal Yard. This means that the Alcos will be the lead engines on the return trip giving the Empire City railfans a chance to get some good photos once word gets out the Alcos are on the move.
Train EB-2 heads towards Terminal Yard.

EBRR Train EB-2, six engines strong, rolls into Terminal Yard.
The empty PC covered hoppers will be stored at Terminal Yard
Other PCCM cars in play include the PC depressed flat and GM&O boxcar brought into North Side Y ard by the LIRR in PCCM 64.
1/87th scale PC Ralph has cut from EB-2 and is reclaiming the caboose for the trip back to North Side Yard.
The Terminal Yard trainmaster has come out to extend his thanks to PC Ralph for the EBRR's cooperation with the derailment issues. He's probably just admiring the good looking EBRR lash up as it leaves for North Side Yard!
1/87th scale PC Ralph and the guys are now back at North Side Yard and ready for a break until the PCCM 65 inbound portions.
Back at Terminal Yard 1/87th scale Big Mike and Robert R have been called for PC Train BT-27, The Bedford Turn, that will depart Terminal Yard and serve the City of Bedford industries before returning. 1/87th scale Big Mike growls to Robert R "on the Valley we called this an extra short turnaround"
1/87th scale Big Mike brings his still turbocharged GP20 to the Hostess Plant where the empty WP 40' Bulk Sugar boxcar needs to be pulled and returned for loading to Great Western Sugar in Denver on Brian's R.C.R. layout.
1/87th scale conductor Robert R has ridden his transfer caboose into the Hostess siding and coupled up to the WP boxcar. The WP car is uncoupled from the Hostess covered hopper and he gives Big Mike the signal to pull out the boxcar.
A 2 bay covered hopper of sugar and empty boxcar are spotted at Hostess.
The D&H boxcar has been coupled to the rear of the transfer caboose and 1/87th scale Big Mike is making a runaround move.
BT-27 heads east to work the University Millwork siding.
The GP-20 is uncoupled from the train and heads into the University Millwork siding to pick up PC boxcar #360158 loaded with TV cabinets for Zenith in Bloomberg NY.
BT-27 shoves back to drop the D&H boxcar loaded with lumber from Valley Lumber in West Egg on 1:1 John B's LF&NW layout.
BT-27 leaves Bedford.
And returns to Terminal Yard.
We'll close it here for today with 1/87th scale Big Mike having cut off from BT-27, picked up his conductor and caboose and spotting the caboose back on the caboose track.
Tomorrow we'll close out the NYCTL outbound portion with the Terminal Yard switchers getting this mishegas in order and  dispatching the outbound train to Selkirk.

Be sure to follow the action on 1:1 PC Ralph's Kings Port Division!

P.C.C.M. 65 / NYCTL Part 1

Greetings All,

Welcome to the P.C.C.M. 65 series!!!

This will be a two layout virtual op between my NYCTL and PC Ralph's Kings Port DivisionBrian's Ralston Creek Railroad and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific Railroad were unavailable so I built in the below scenario for my portion of the virtual ops.

A Penn Central derailment between Weehawken and Rock Ridge has closed the line for P.C.C.M. 65. 1/87th scale Sir Neal has headed over to Rock Ridge Yard to oversee the clean up efforts from that direction while the PC works out of Weehawken to get the line open for P.C.C.M. 66. 1/87th scale PC Ralph has assumed yardmaster and senior engineer duties at North Side Yard.

Selkirk has notified Terminal Yard to embargo all cars currently in Terminal Yard for Rock Ridge Yard.

Terminal Yard has notified the Empire Belt RR it will only accept and store Penn Central cars destined for Rock Ridge to avoid paying a storage fee. No foreign road cars for Rock Ridge however will be accepted.

Freight cars going to Brian's R.C.R. are currently on Penn Central rails. They will be forwarded to Elkhart and held there until the next P.C.C.M.

We open our outbound segments at the Empire Belt RRs North Side Yard located in Empire City NY. "You got it Ralph" says 1/87th scale senior engineer Sir Neal as he prepares for departure to the A.P.R.R.s Rock Ridge Yard in New Jersey. 1/87th scale Sir Neal needs to oversee clean up efforts on the Penn Central line from Rock Ridge to Weehawken that is blocked by a Penn Central derailment.
As the interim senior conductor in charge 1/87th scale PC Ralph and his trusty conductor/brakeman will be working North Side Yard and the Morning Industrial Job using the GP9m-FB-GP9m lash up normally assigned to senior engineer Sir Neal.
The guys get right to it as there is a lot of work to be done like pulling these EBRR reefers from the EBRR transfer to the Penn Central's Terminal Yard. The cars are loaded with non perishable food stuff from Ralph's Grocery Warehouse.
The EBRR reefers will be held at North Side Yard until further notice. Remember the Penn Central has notified the Empire Belt that they will not be accepting any foreign road cars for Rock Ridge Yard until the line is cleared. Ugh...
With the yard in order the Morning Industrial Job begins its work crossing over to the Empire City industrial running track with four cars for local consignees.
First stop is Gervais Pipe to pick up this trio of  gondolas from the APRR and EBRR loaded with steel pipe for Shapeless Steel via Rock Ridge Yard. Great...
Next move is pulling three empty PC and three empty APRR covered hoppers from Empire City Cargill to go back to the large Rock Ridge Cargill facility for reloading. C'mon Man.....
Gondolas KP&W #2140 and MCRR #350623 are now spotted at Gervais Pipe and Cargill covered hopper TDLX #7241 is spotted at Cargill for their next PCCM loads.
With the six covered hoppers, three gondolas and one boxcar in tow 1/87th scale PC Ralph brings the Morning Industrial Job toward the west side of Empire City.
Now working the west side industries the MIJ picks up EL boxcar #73510 loaded with burlap bags for Boom's Ready Mix in Kings Port NY from Moore & Company.
The MIJ shoves back to Drywell Inks to pull empty NYC 50' boxcar #80775.
The MIJ is shoving back to Walsh Steel Wool Products.
TP&W #627 is pulled from Walsh Steel Wool with a load of steel wool mesh for Boom's Ready Mix in Kings Port NY.
Empty P&E #3638 is spotted at Drywell Inks for it's next PCCM load while a bar patron goes about his business next to the bar.
Empty NYC 50' boxcar #80775 is spotted at Moore & Company to receive it's next PCCM load.
Three empty APRR covered hoppers are shoved into the west side storage track to await the reopening of the line from Weehawken to the APRRs Rock Ridge Yard.
With the industrial switching done 1/87th scale PC Ralph brings the MIJ thru midtown has he heads back to North Side Yard.
The MIJ rolls into North Side Yard on track 2.
1/87th scale PC Ralph is busy organizing the yard and the outbound transfer train (EB-2) to Terminal Yard. Three EBRR reefers and three gons loaded with pipe will remain at North Side Yard until the PC line to Rock Ridge is cleared.
We'll cut it here for today with the EBRR men contemplating getting Train EB-2 to Terminal Yard.

We'll pick it up tomorrow with the EBRR dispatching Train EB-2, PC Train BT-27 will roll out of Terminal Yard and the Terminal Yard Switcher will get to work on building our outbound Penn Central train to Selkirk.

Be sure to follow the action on 1:1 PC Ralph's Kings Port Division!
