Penn Central Car Movements #85 / N.Y.C.T.L. Part 2 / Empire Belt Efficiency!

 Greetings All,

 Welcome back to Penn Central Car Movements #85!!!

Our three layout virtual op with my N.Y.C.T.L. interchanging freight cars with PC Ralph's Kings Port Division and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR continues today. 

We open today with LIRR engineer Jimmy Alco saying goodbye to the Empire Belt trainmen and preparing to depart after bringing a long string of PCCM cars to North Side Yard.

LIRR caboose #12 is reclaimed as the LIRR departs the yard.

Jimmy Alco brings the train around the west side curve.

The LIRR Transfer heads back to Fresh Pond Yard.


Back at North Side Yard senior engineer Sir Neal in the 6295 starts  working the cars brought in by the LIRR. The PS2 covered hoppers are part of a group of empties going back to Tri Mount Cement in South West Mill NY.

A little while later engineer PC Ralph couples his U23Cs to todays Morning Industrial Job that serves the Empire City industries. The empty AP boxcars are needed to fulfill a PCCM empties request at Moore & Company on Empire City's west side.

The caboose is coupled on to P&E boxcar #3638 that is loaded with assorted kitchen gadgets like turnip twaddlers from REVCO in Bloomberg NY. 

The P&E 3638 came into the yard in PCCM 83 and an attempt was made to steal the turnip twaddlers while it sat in North Side Yard awaiting placement at Ralph's Grocery Warehouse. The E.C.P.D has been guarding it ever since and they are now relieved to be relieved from the assignment.

PC Ralph brings the MIJ onto the Empire City secondary track passing some PS2 covered hoppers for Tri Mount Cement, two gons of scrap for Sal's Salvage, an empty Morton Salt covered hopper and other PCCM cars that will be going to Terminal Yard later today.

The MIJ starts working the east side industries by coupling onto a pair of empty coil coaches at Gervais Pipe & Fitting that are going back to Kings Port Steel.

Three empties get pulled from Ralph's Grocery Warehouse. The Swift reefer will be going back to Swift in Lawrence, Mass. PC 360063 and PC 229036 will be used to fulfill empty PCCM car requests.

P&E boxcar #3638 gets spotted at Ralph's Grocery Warehouse. The turnip twaddler panic is almost over!

An empty P&LE gondola is spotted at Gervais Pipe & Fitting for its next PCCM load.

A pair of EBRR covered hoppers loaded with enriched flour for Freihofer's bakery in Rock Ridge NJ get pulled from Cargill.

Empty PC and NYC boxcars get pulled from Neal's Lumber and Hardware under the supervision of Sir Neal himself. These cars will be used to fulfill PCCM empty requests.

The empty NYC Early Bird boxcar from Neal's Lumber is spotted at Prestage Gear for its next PCCM load. That's efficiency!

The MIJ heads west.


PC Ralph brings the MIJ over the Empire City viaduct.

Now working the west side industries the MIJ couples up to EBRR boxcar #358160 at Moore & Company loaded with bulk paper for Marcal in Rock Ridge NJ.

Empty SRR bulkhead flats get pulled from City Pallet for their next PCCM loads.

EBRR boxcars #416035 and #416079 get pulled from Walsh Steel Wool loaded with steel wool for American Hardware in Rock Ridge NJ.

Empty PC boxcar #77047 pulled earlier from Neal's Lumber & Hardware gets spotted at City Pallet for its next PCCM load.

Two non PCCM boxcars get shoved towards Superior Furniture and Reliable Machine Co using the empty AP boxcars as a handle to get under the Superior Furniture overhang.

Empty AP boxcars #4035 and #4182 are spotted at Moore & Company for their next PCCM loads.

With the switching work done the MIJ heads to North Side Yard.


PC Ralph brings the MIJ into the yard.

The Empire Belt guys MU their engines together for Train EB-2, a daily transfer run to Terminal Yard. Todays EB-2 is going to be a long train and they have been told by the PC dispatcher they have a short window to get thru Bedford to Terminal Yard due to heavy outbound traffic.

EBRR Train EB-2 makes its way to Terminal Yard.



After yarding Train EB-2 the EBRR guys have coupled up to their caboose but get held in the yard as Train APR-25 gets ready to depart. Looks like engine hostler Wet Willie is getting some flack for putting EMD engines on a train with empties from the Bedford Park Ford Plant.

We'll end it here for today and close out the Outbound portion  tomorrow with some local action and the dispatch of our outbound trains.

    The meet at Bedford Yard with the trio of NH engines was awesome! Just love the McGinnis paint scheme. Nice EB-2 train rolling thru Bedford Yard. That location is a rail fan favorite. Good to see the E.C.P.D. was protecting the P&E box car. Must have been quite the special car to get that much protection! Looking forward to seeing the inaugural run of train APR-25 to Rock Ridge Yard!

    I have to agree that the colorful NH consist meeting EB-2 was a sight to see! It seems that train platform is a railfanning hot spot as The LIRR and BP-41 also encountered each other there! Train EB-2 was a long one! Good call on doubling up the consist! I'm looking forward to the debut of APR-25! REVCO asked us to forward their appreciation of the policing of their load of Turnip Twaddlers in P&E boxcar #3638. Apparently the "street value" of these devices is pretty high so its tempting to steal a carton. Glad they made it safely to Ralph's Grocery Warehouse!

      Thanks Ralph!!! The "street value" of turnip twaddlers surprised everyone including the ECPD who were unaware how much the Empire City homemakers and restaurateurs would pay for these convenient gadgets. Tell REVCO we'll continue to keep their shipments safe as best we can and we appreciate them shipping by rail!
