Penn Central Car Movements #73 / NYCTL Part 4 / The Inbound Cycle begins

Greetings All,

Welcome back to Penn Central Car Movement series #73!!

The inbound cycle of this three layout virtual op with PC Ralph's Kings Port Division and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR interchanging freight cars with my N.Y.C.T.L. opens today.

Train TY-2 out of Selkirk with freight cars from the Kings Port Division heads onto the Empire City High Line behind a mix of U Boats and F units.

Catch TY-2 at Bedford Tower

TY-2 arrives at Terminal Yard.
About an hour later Train TY-4 out of Selkirk with freight cars from the Atlantic Pacific RR rolls onto the Empire City High Line behind a trio of six axle EMDs.

Catch TY-4 at Bedford Tower

PC SD40 6102 leads TY-4 into Terminal Yard.
The EMDs bring the train down track#8.
After cutting from their train the EMDs and U Boats meet at the engine terminal.
U23C 6718 is holding down the Yard Job today and gets to work on the Kings Port Division freight cars making up train TY-2.
Empty coal hoppers from Kings Port Steel get shoved into track #6 coupled to a focal orange caboose.
Making up the Bedford Turn is PC boxcar #360158 loaded with bagged flour from Blue Ribbon Flour going to the Hostess Plant and an empty HRC 40' boxcar going to Heileman Brewery to fulfill an Empty Car Request.
Train EC-1, going to the Empire Belt RRs North Side Yard with cars for Empire City industries, is getting put together on track 3.
A pair of Gulf tank cars going to the Bedford Park Ford Plant from the Kings Port Gulf River Facility wait to get blocked into a train as the train for Empire City continues to grow.
The Yard Job is now working the Atlantic Pacific RR freight cars from Train TY-4.
A six car block of 57' EBRR and APRR Reefers going to Pilgrim State Hospital loaded with frozen meals from C&P Restaurant Supply is shoved into track 5 with the LIRR bound cars from the Kings Port Division.
Empty APRR gondolas for Gervais Pipe are shoved into track 5 to make up train EC-3 which will be all LIRR cars and overflow Empire City industry cars.
Empty NYC and PRR hoppers from the Kings Port Division going to Hudson Coal are joined by four PC PS2 covered hoppers going to T&R Gravel for engine sand for the APRR Engine Terminal.
The yard master decides the Gulf tank cars on track 3 will be put on the tail end of EC-1 and dropped off on the return from North Side Yard. The Yard Job is directed to pull the long string of cars out of track 2 to make this happen.
The two Gulf cars and two buffer cars are coupled into EC-1 and being shoved back into track 2.
Unfortunately the 6718 doesn't have the muscle stalling on the grade and fouling the yard. Looks like it's gonna be one of those P.C.C.M.s!
A call goes out to the Empire Belt RR at North Side Yard in Empire City and 1/87th scale senior engineer Sir Neal responds with EBRR U23Cs 6719 and 6720.
The three U23Cs are coupled together.
The three units have more than enough power to get the train up the grade and back into the yard.
We'll cut it here for today with 1/87th scale Sir Neal and the EBRR U23Cs heading back to North Side Yard.
We'll pick it up tomorrow with our first of several trains out of Terminal Yard.
Be sure to follow the action on PC Ralph's Kings Port Division and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR!

Thanks for reading and watching!!
See ya tomorrow!!

Great start to your inbound freight! That’s a lot of motive power on both trains. A train consist with U-Boats, F units and SD unit on the rear is very impressive. The quick classification of both trains shows how efficient the crew at Terminal Yard works with 2 trains arriving one behind each other. I think Engine 6718 may need to be serviced since it needed some additional power.

Thanks for the compliments 1:1 Sir Neal!!!

I pass on your compliments to the Terminal Yard crew who can always use a pat on the back. The 6718 is running fine but exceeded it's tonnage rating on that move thanks to the yardmaster.

Acknowledge arrival of TY-2 and TY-4 at Terminal Yard with cars from the KPD and A.P.R.R.

    West Mill out.

I liked the intro right off the bat with the "Very Penn Central" mixed consist of U Boats and F units! Both trains looked great in their roll bys at Bedford Tower. A PC Power treat seen in the photo of the units at the engine yard! Yellow paneled U23C #6718's woes on the hill are our gain as we get to see two sister units come to the rescue! I'm in awe of the organized yard work setting up trains from the two inbound trains!

      Thanks Ralph!!

I'm so glad you caught and enjoyed the nuances of PC locomotive practices!!

I'll pass on the compliments to the Terminal Yard crew!! Much appreciated!! I need to have a talk with the yard master though about tonnage ratings.😉
