Welcome back to Penn Central Car Movements #71!!!
Our two layout virtual op with Ralph's Kings Port Division continues today with the NYCTL dispatching a loaded coal extra from Terminal Yard to Kings Port Steel.
We pick it up at Terminal Yard with 1/87th scale Robert R bringing the fifteen loaded coal hoppers from Hudson Coal across the weigh in motion scale on track #8.
With a very congested yard today the coal train is left on track #8 for 1/87th scale Kar Knocker and his men to inspect. The Coal Job NYC H16-44s are eased into the engine terminal marking engineer Robert R's second successful revenue run, both with classic motive power.
The yard switcher, U23C #6718 is hard at work organizing the yard tracks. Track 4 is holding a long line of P.C.C.M. / virtual ops cars that need to get to their next destinations!
The 6718 couples up to the released coal train.
The fifteen coal hoppers get shoved into track 6.
The coal hoppers are ready to go and await motive power.
Over at the engine terminal 1/87th scale Sup't Shore tells the engine hostler he wants another 3,000 HP on the loaded coal train and tells him to grab PC U30C #6533 from the sanding rack.
Engine hostler Wet Willie saunters slowly over to the 6533.
While that's going on the yard job takes advantage and shoves three empty NYC double door boxcars towards Bruce Electric Equipment for their next P.C.C.M. load.
The three NYC boxcars are left here for a Pier 16 Yard crew to pick up and deliver. The three empties are spotted at Bruce Electric Equipment to be loaded with wire and cables for IBM in Binghamton NY
Back at the engine terminal the 6533 is coupled on to PC GP40 #3007 and GP30 #2228.
The power is coupled on, the train number will be Extra 2228, the crew is on board, the terminal brake test is done and it's time to go!
Watch Extra 2228 make it's way thru the Hudson Division towards the Kings Port Division and Kings Port Steel
Next stop Kings Port Steel!!!
Last but not least 1/87th scale division Sup't Shore with an E.C.P.D summons in hand calls the Terminal Yard train master and men together and demands to know"Who the heck is Frank Rossollino?!" Big Mike looks to have abruptly turned away while stifling a cough or a laugh. Hmm.
Be sure to follow Extra 2228 as it arrives on
PC Ralph's Kings Port Division and to learn the
identity of "Frank Rossollino"!
Thanks for reading and watching
See ya soon!!
This was a great coal move! Good to see Robert making inroads on the railroad and building up revenue hours. As always, the engine terminal has become a great focal point, at least for me. That corner where Bruce Electric stands adds a lot of depth to the layout, very nice work!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliments 1:1 Sir Neal!!!Another fun virtual op. Looking forward to expanding back to three layouts!

Acknowledge dispatch of Unit Coal Train Extra #2228.
KPD out.
Lots of work going on at Terminal Yard as crews multi-task with the coal train and car movements for the next P.C.C.M.! Tonnage requirements of loaded cars justify the addition of U Boat #6533 to the consist as the train returns to the KPD. Great video coverage of the train as it leave the N.Y.C.T.L.! I was admiring those yellow and blue reefers at the rear of the train waiting to enter the yard. Nice work all around on this series! Big Mike seems to know something!
Thank you for the compliments PC Ralph!!!! It's been a very enjoyable virtual op. Looking forward to Extra 2228 arriving on the KPD!! Hopefully we'll learn what Big Mike knows about who the heck is Frank Rossollino!!!
DeleteJust got caught up on my PCCM's. Both 70 & 71 were great reads. Looks to me like Ol' Frank R. might get more time than Christy's bridge gate peeps! Btw: In your rainy day ops, did I see Ice bunker cars in the consist? Were they still used during that time? I believe I read the last icing was in 72 or 74. I think the article said it was a private Anhieswer- Busch operation. Were they used as insulated box cars?
ReplyDeleteHi K.K.!! I remember Christy's bridge gate! I've watched many a video from the era and 40' ice reefers are definitely in the freight trains. Whether they are iced and what they are carrying is never explained though. They could have been in "ventilator" service carrying potatoes or other crops. Being used as insulated cars sounds very reasonable.
DeleteThank you for assigning the two FM H16-44's John! They pull quite well. As always, I am enjoying your latest series!
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking in Robert R. You're most welcome!!! 1/87th scale Robert R is certainly enjoying the "classics"!!
