P.C.C.M. 57C / Dispatch of Empty Grain train GRT-3

Greetings All,

Welcome back to the P.C.C.M. 57 series!!!

It's time to pull out the empty covered hoppers that came in on train GRT-2 and get them rolling back to Empire Grain on PC Ralph's Kings Port Division.

1/87th scale Big Mike's bellyaching over the new transfer caboose has not sat well with the Terminal Yard Superintendent and today we find no cabooses available and Big Mike assigned to ride a spacer flatcar.
1/87th scale Big Mike has connected the air lines and given the signal for the Yard Job to start pulling the empties.

Uncoupling the empty LV car from the loaded TP&W car.
1/87th scale Big Mike protects the shove back to the Pier 16 Grain Silos aboard a loaded TP&W covered hopper.
Over on track 8A 1/87th scale PC Ralph has been called for Empty Grain Train GRT-3 that will be heading back towards the Kings Port Division's West Mill Yard and Empire Grain.
Word is these U Boats are very slow to load as 1/87th scale PC Ralph guides GRT-3 thru Terminal Yard.
The big PC GEs depart Terminal Yard for Selkirk and West Mill on the River Line. For reasons not yet known it was reported that the Penn Central discontinued the use of the U Boats on this line in 1970. The U Boats then returned to the line in Spring 1975.
Rolling slowly into Bedford NY GRT-3 finds 1/87th scale Alco Joe and his freight train waiting on track 3. Alco Joe is out to give the the time honored 'What's up Ralph?!!' and GRT-3 a roll by inspection.
GRT-3 is held at Bedford Station as Bedford Tower operator 1/87th scale John B is threading the Bedford needle. 1/87th scale PC Ralph is out on the porch to say hi to 1/87th scale Sir Neal and give Train EB-2 a roll by inspection.
1/87th scale PC Ralph is on his way as towerman John B has come out to give GRT-3 a high ball and roll by inspection.
Next Stop West Mill!!!!
That concludes the N.Y.C.T.L. portions of P.C.C.M. 57. Be sure to follow the action on PC Ralph's Kings Port Division

Thanks for reading!!!
See Ya soon!!

  1. This is a great series! Dedicated trains are always fun to see and covered hoppers of this caliper are very big, bold and colorful! Tell 1/87th Big Mike not to argue or complain to management. He could be on the next train to Buffalo in the winter for permanent assignment! HA!

  2. Agree with Sir Neal, great looking unit train action with all of those grain hoppers returning to West Mill. Big Mike is going to get a complex and drown his sorrows with Diet Coke and Mallomars, while hiding in the cab of a GP30. 😉 Glad to see Alco Joe earning his keep with that classic Alco lash up. All around fun time on the N.Y.C.T.L.!!!

    1. Thanks Brian!!!The GP30 would be a great hiding place for 1/87th scale Big Mike. That would be the last place the guys would look for him. 1/87th scale Alco Joe is doing a fine job and seems to really enjoy running that four engine Alco consist.

  3. To: Terminal Yard
    From: West Mill
Acknowledge dispatch of GRT-3 for West Mill
    West Mill out.

Nice choice of power for the return trip! Some recent reading about the PC employing big GE six axle units in the Berkshires makes me wonder if they were pulled from the River Line to haul trains on parts of the system with more grades. Perhaps their return in 1975 indicated a falling off of traffic in those mountainous areas? Big Mike should quit griping while he's behind!

    1. 10-4 West Mill...

Moving the U Boats to fight the Berkshires makes sense to me. Having them return to the River Line in 1975 could very well be a downturn in Boston traffic. Hoping 1/87th scale Big Mike takes your advice!
