Penn Central Car Movements #99 Part 4 / The First Inbound Train Arrives.

 Greetings All,

Welcome Back to Penn Central Car Movements #99!!!

Our three layout virtual op with my NYCTL interchanging freight traffic with PC Ralph's Kings Port Division and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR continues today with the arrival of our first inbound train, Train TY-2 from Selkirk, with freight traffic from both the KPD and APRR.

Penn Central Train TY-2 from Selkirk rounds the curve at Bedford Tower as it heads to Terminal Yard

The TY-2 rumbles thru Bedford NY on its last lap to Terminal Yard.

Train TY-2 arrives in Terminal Yard.

The TY-2 power joins a group of PC locomotives in the engine terminal. All engines are Patti O Paint Shop alumni.

The Yard Job and Kar Knocker get to work on the TY-2 freight consist.

With the TY-2 consist inspected and accepted the Yard Job pulls a cut into Terminal Yard for blocking into local trains.

Six empty coal hoppers from Tri-Mount Cement are shoved into a group of empties awaiting movement to Hudson Coal.

Three tank cars of diesel fuel for the PC engine terminal from the Gulf River Facility are spotted at the tank car track using the PS-2 hoppers as buffer cars between the locomotives and tank cars.

The four empty PS-2 hoppers from the APRR Richmond Hill Engine Terminal going to T&R Gravel are coupled onto the empty coal hoppers to make up Train MR-1.

PC covered hoppers loaded with bleached flour for Hostess and PC boxcar #229046 loaded with bulk carboard for Berk Enterprises are setout on track #3 for the makeup of the Bedford Turn.

Auto Parts Cars from IDEAL Auto Parts and two coil coaches of steel coils from Kings Port Steel are placed on track #7 for  movement to the Bedford Park Ford Plant. The EL reefer will be picked up shortly by the Yard A switcher and moved to Yard A.

Speaking of the Yard A switcher there it is delivering three empty APRR covered hoppers to the Pier 16 Grain Silos for their next PCCM loads.

The Yard A switcher interchanges freight cars with Terminal Yard.

The EL reefer loaded with frozen food from ShopRite is spotted in Yard A for inspection by the perishable protection service inspectors and refueling if necessary prior to movement to Consolidated Grocery Distributors located in Terminal Warehouse building #3

It's time to check in at Bedford Park and we catch the Bedford Park Yard Job pulling two empty gondolas from the Ford Plant steel track.

The BPY Job next pulls empty auto parts boxcars from the Ford Plant.

The BPY Job stops at Bedford Tower to get clearance to proceed to Terminal Yard as Train BP-12.

Train BP-12 heads to Terminal Yard.

Train BP-12 arrives at Terminal Yard.

It's another fast turnaround for Robert R as he checks in with the Terminal Yard crew and prepares to depart with hot cars for the Ford Plant.

Train BP-41 rushes back to Bedford Park.

The BP-41 has stopped short of Bedford Tower as new switching procedures are now in place to keep the 86' boxcars and 89' auto racks out of the confines of Bedford Park Yard to reduce derailments on the tight curves.
The two coil coaches are uncoupled and head to the Ford Plant.

The coil coaches from KP Steel are shoved into the steel track.

The BP-41 engine returns to the Bedford Secondary and has permission to cross onto the main to make its runaround move.

The S-4 couples up to its caboose and starts shoving the 86' boxcar from IDEAL Auto Parts towards the Ford Plant.

The 86'ers are shoved into the Ford siding without having to enter the confines of Bedford Park Yard and without derailing.

We'll cut it here for today with Robert R heading back to Bedford Park Yard to perform some non PCCM switching duties.

We'll pick it up tomorrow with the Bedford Turn getting dispatched from Terminal Yard.

Be sure to catch all the action on PC Ralph's Kings Port Division and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR.

Thanks for reading and watching!!!
See you tomorrow!!!

    1. Thank you very much Robert !! I painted the 86'ers for the PCCMs and they are like rolling warehouses trying to negotiate the tight curves in the yard. Fortunately 1:87 Robert R has devised the new operating procedure to avoid the frequent derailments!

    West Mill out.

The auto industry demands quick car forwarding, and Terminal Yard gets the job done. Cars arriving on the very long TY-2 are set out to Ford right away! The new switching procedures at Bedford to avoid derailments look like solid practice to me! I like the inclusion of operational details like the inspection of perishable service cars and refueling of refrigeration units!

Thank you very much Ralph!! The new switching sequence for the Ford Plant worked well with no derailments. The only issue that may arise is the need for more mainline time to perform that runaround move but since I'm in charge of train sequences I don't see that being a problem. Yet!!! Maybe a good place to stage a meet though.

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

What a great lineup at Terminal Yard showing all of the PC engines that have gone thru the Patti-O Paint Shop for the NYCTL. Very impressive to see! I don’t think I’ve seen the view of the Pier 16 Yard from that angle. It looks huge! Nice shot! It’s nice to see that the Bedford Tower added some new procedures for switching certain industries. Nice way to keep freight moving.

    Great start to your inbound!

Thank you very much Sir Neal!!! I recently noted that the Patti O Paint Shop has been open for fourteen years. Train SK-5 from Terminal Yard with PCCM 99 cars for Rock Ridge Yard consisted of all Patti O Paint Shop freight cars except for the Hostess covered hopper. SK-5 Pier 16 is rather large!
