Greetings All,
Welcome Back to Penn Central Car Movements #109
Our two layout virtual op with my layout interchanging freight traffic with Ralph's Kings Port Division continues today with the Empire Belt RR taking center stage and the new Quaker Oats Plant and EBRR Train HH-1making their PCCM debuts.
We open up today's action in the Haydon Heights neighborhood with Train HH-1. As the citizens and trainmen fight the extreme cold this month the Empire Belt has added a PC, ex NH, H16-44 #5169 to assist the EBRR 7698 which is making its PCCM debut.
The HH-1 starts its work at the Quaker Oats silos pulling covered hoppers and some boxcars from the factory.
The H16-44s pull the first group of freight cars from Quaker to clear switch and access the Gervais Pipe / Quaker shared siding. The HH-1 has shoved back from Gervais Pipe to pull two P&LE boxcars from Quaker. The empty brown P&LE #35892 will be moving to its next PCCM destination.
The HH-1 pulls out the Quaker and Gervais freight traffic.
The HH-1 has delivered the Quaker / Gervais Pipe freight cars to North Side Yard and we learn 1:87 Senior Engineer Sir Neal is back for 2025 and has been working the Quaker Job. The 5169 and 7698 are coupled up to the non PCCM freight traffic going to Quaker and Gervais.
The HH-2 departs North Side Yard with freight traffic for Quaker and Gervais Pipe.
Senior engineer Sir Neal pulls past Hohman Ave to begin the shove move with non PCCM traffic for the Haydon Heights industries.
Later in the day we find PC Ralph is also back for 2025 and is getting ready to board GP18 7279 which will be one of four EBRR engines powering today's Belt Job
The Belt Job is on the move.
The first stop for the Belt Job is at Neal's Lumber & Hardware to pull empty NYC boxcar #47062 and P&E boxcar #3838 for movement to their next PCCM destinations. Looks like Sir Neal is on a break and taking delivery of a crate of pre-ordered model trains!
Sir Neal's attention is drawn to the non PCCM colorful Johnson Wax and SP&S boxcars delivering products to Neal's Lumber & Hardware.
The Belt Job heads to the Hohman Ave. Industrial Park.
Now in the Hohman Ave industrial park the Belt Job is working the Reliable Machine Company siding to pull PC boxcar #360063 loaded with a cutting machine for Canton Box in West Mill, NY.
NYC boxcar #80755 is pulled from the industrial park's storage track. It was loaded at Reliable Machine Company with appliance parts for Peerless Appliance in Mayfield, NY.
PC Ralph has the Belt Job back together and prepares to head back to North Side Yard.

The Belt Job departs from Hohman Ave.
PC Ralph brings the Belt Job into North Side Yard.
After getting the waybills together the EBRR trainmen block and classify the freight cars in North Side Yard as they prepare for the arrival of Long Island RR Train MA-3.P&LE boxcar #35892 is set out for pick up by the LIRR.
Over at the Bedford overbuild LIRR Train MA-3 from Fresh Pond Yard heads towards North Side Yard.Train MA-3 rolls towards North Side Yard.
The MA-3 arrives at North Side Yard.
LIRR RS3 #1556 is coupled onto the P&LE boxcar heading to Fresh Pond Yard to fulfill a PCCM Empty Car Request from Canada Dry in Maspeth, Queens. The EBRR trainmen are happy to see that LIRR engineer Jimmy Alco bid for and holds the MA3/MA4 job.
LIRR Train MA-4 heads out of Empire City.
LIRR Train MA-4 heads out of Empire City.
The MA-4 rolls thru Bedford.
Next stop Fresh Pond Yard.
A short time later the EBRR trainmen get Train EB-2 ready for departure with PC Ralph at the throttle. The four unit consist looks pretty cool to me and will be necessary to overcome the additional friction of the cold journal boxes in the twenty seven car train.
The EB-2 rolls thru Bedford.
We'll cut it here for today with EBRR Train EB-2 arrives in Terminal Yard.
We'll pick it up tomorrow with EBRR Train EB-3 heading back to North Side Yard.
This wraps up part two on the NYCTL. Tomorrow we'll run our final outbound moves and dispatch our outbound train. Be sure to catch all the action on Ralph's Kings Port Division!!!Thanks for reading and watching!!!
See you train!!!
If there are any vacancies on your RR I'm happy to apply as resident hobo!

A big APRR welcome goes out to the new Quaker Oats industry and all of the employees working hard to make this plant a success! The action there will be fast, furious and profitable! Gervais Pipe will enjoy the action as well. Those engines will earn their keep. Good idea to add the additional engine to the job…
Nice work on the Belt Job getting the freight from the local industries (1:87 Sir Neal thanks you for the model train order delivery) and the additional moves at the Hohman Ave Industrial Complex.
LIRR train moves are a welcome sight to this home grown LI modeler for sure!
Just a lot of heavy motive power for these moves today. Seems like the weather is taking its toll and they need that extra push!!
Nice work Sir John!

Congratulations on the debut run of trains HH-1 and HH-2 serving the newly installed Quaker Oats plant! The string of covered hoppers and boxcars indicates how much revenue this industry will provide to the EBRR. The H16-44s look great on the head end of these trains with the former NH unit adding some color.
The Belt Job and the EB-2 made for great train roll bys! I really like the audio on all of the films with nice horn effects.
The four unit consist on the Belt job with the inclusion of the B unit was a nice touch. I understand it was to help with frozen journals, a nice nod to prototype power assignment considerations. The plow move was tantalizing. I want to see more, and its not just because it is currently snowing here in Minnesota!
10-4 West Mill!!!
DeleteThank you very much Ralph!!!
