Penn Central Car Movements #90 / Part 4 / The Inbound Cycle Begins

 Greetings All,

Welcome Back to Penn Central Car Movements #90

The PCCM 90 virtual op with my NYCTL layout interchanging freight cars with PC Ralph's Kings Port Division continues today with the start of my inbound portion.

The action starts with PC Train WKT-9 from West Mill coming thru Empire City as it heads for Terminal Yard.

Train WKT-9 is stopped at Bedford Station to remove a trio of hobos riding in this NYC Pacemaker car.

The car is loaded with brand new barrels from ACCO in Mayfield NY and going to Drywell Inks in Empire City.

Train WKT-9 is back underway.

WKT-9 enters Terminal Yard.

NYC boxcar #164000 making its PCCM debut as a buffer car to protect the train crew in the caboose is part of our efforts to better protect our PCCM train crews from dangerous loads and hazardous materials.

The WKT-9 motive power heads into the engine terminal for servicing.

The yard job couples onto the WKT-9 caboose and Kar Knocker prepares to blue flag the train for inspection.

The WKT-9 consist passes inspection and the Yard Job gets to work putting the local trains together.

The NYC 164000 will remain on the local train when this train departs as it will be the head end of Train EC-1.

The Yard Job is putting together Train BP-41 on track #5 shoving in a pair of Evans coil coaches for the Bedford Park Ford Plant while a pair of coil coaches for Gervais Pipe in Empire City look on.

Boxcars for Empire City industries are placed in track #7.

PC and EL boxcars for Bedford Industries are shoved into track #5.

Freight traffic for Empire City industries that head out as Train EC-1 is blocked into Track #4.

The Long Island RR interchange traffic is blocked onto the head end of Train EC-1 going to Empire City

Eight empty coal hoppers from Corning Glass are shoved into Track #7 to await the next dispatch of the Coal Job to Hudson Coal.

The Yard Job couples up to NH boxcar #36116 and shoves it up Track #8 towards Terminal Warehouse & Cold Storage.

The NH boxcar loaded with canned goods from Van Winkle Canning in Bloomberg NY is spotted at Terminal Warehouse & Cold Storage.

Two non PCCM PC boxcars are coupled between the caboose and tank car containing Freon which is a flammable gas to protect the train crew.

We'll close it out here with Terminal Yard all set for the arrival of inbound trains and for local trains to be dispatched.

Tomorrow we'll turn the op over to Robert R working out of Bedford Park Yard and servicing those industries.

In keeping with the crew safety initiative I learned Freon, also known as Fluorinated Hydrocarbon Refrigerant, is a flammable gas and should have a red placard like this. After more than a decade the NYCTL Train crews are enjoying unprecedented protection.

Be sure to follow the action on PC Ralph's Kings Port Division!!!

Thanks for reading and watching!!!
See you soon!!!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

Nice start to your inbound to Terminal Yard, with the exception of an incident requiring an emergency stop at Bedford. Looks like LE was on the scene right away. The crew in Terminal Yard wasted no time in getting the train classified and readied to depart on the next day. Interesting Freon car on the layout. Never seen one like it before. Good to know the crew is protected against any type of hazards!

    West Mill out

That pair of GP38s and the FP7 looked pretty good at the head end of WKT-9 as it rolled into Terminal Yard and as it moved over to the engine facilities. We may wish to call them out again some time! I enjoyed the scenes of the extraction of the hoboes from the Pacemaker car! This may be the first documented arrest of train hoppers in a PCCM! Nice work managing hazards both my keeping NYC boxcar #164000 coupled to the girder beam load and for thinking to provide buffers for the Freon tanker! That's a cool car, by the way! Impressive work by the Yard job assembling four outgoing trains and setting out cars at yard side industries! I've been looking forward to the beginning of the inbound portions of this virtual ops series and the N.Y.C.T.L. pulled it off very nicely!

Thanks for the compliments Ralph!!! The GP38s and FP7 did work well together and we should send a note to the PCCM Power Desk for them to be mued in a future consist!

I think you're right about the hobo arrest being the first in a PCCM. That old pacemaker car seems to be an inviting place for the non paying passengers.

The Terminal Yard crew arose to the occasion helped by the thoughtful blocking from West Mill!!!
