Penn Central Car Movements #87 / NYCTL Part 1

 Greetings All,

Welcome to Penn Central Car Movements #87!!!

This virtual op will be another two layout operation with PC Ralph's Kings Port Division interchanging freight cars with my New York Central Layout. Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR remains out of service with the ongoing signal upgrades.

The action starts at the Bedford Park Ford Plant with Baldwin S-12 #9314 pulling two empty Evans coil coaches from the steel track to be sent back to Kings Port Steel for reloading.

The S-12 gathers up some freight cars from Bedford Park Yard.

The 9314 brings Train BP-12 out of Bedford Park and into Bedford as it heads to Terminal Yard.

The BP-12 arrives in Terminal Yard.

With Train BP-12 safely in the yard Train MR-1, The Mine Run that serves Hudson Coal and T&R Gravel, prepares to depart.

The first stop is T&R Gravel to pull four PC PS2 covered hoppers loaded with locomotive sand for the APRRs Richmond Hill Engine Terminal.

The PS2 hoppers are shoved into Hudson Coal to allow for the NYC and LIRR hoppers on the right to be spotted at T&R Gravel.

The MR-1 returns to Hudson Coal and starts pulling out the loads

Loaded APRR coal hoppers make their PCCM debut with loads for RMO Electric in Rock Ridge NJ.

The MR-1 pulls the loads out of Hudson Coal and shoves the empties back for loading.

The empties are spotted for loading.

The loaded hopper train gets ready to head back to Terminal Yard as Train MR-2.

Train MR-2 heads back to Terminal Yard.

The GP7s pull into the engine terminal for servicing.

Our final train today is the Bedford Turn, Train BT-27, powered by three GP30s in three paint schemes. The 2218 is relegated to a middle unit as it lacks agreement seats. The 2232, an ex PRR unit received the NYC style seats when shopped for painting.

The Bedford Turn rolls into Bedford.

The Turn pulls AP boxcar #58279 from Hostess loaded with baked goods for C&P Restaurant Supply in Rock Ridge NJ.

The turn shoves into the Schaefer Brewery siding to pull three boxcars loaded with beer.

Including this HR boxcar loaded with the one beer to have when having more than one that is going to Reynolds Beverage.

The turn shoves another block of boxcars into the Schaefer siding as RDC #499 stops at Bedford Station.

After the RDC is clear the GP30s have received permission to make their runaround move down the mainline.

The Bedford Turn heads back to Terminal Yard

The Turn comes back into the yard.

We'll close it here for today with the GP30s joining the GP7s in the engine terminal.

We'll pick it up tomorrow with the dispatch of Train EC-1, a daily transfer from Terminal Yard to the Empire Belt RRs North Side Yard in Empire City.

Be sure to follow the action on PC Ralph's Kings Port Division!

Thanks for reading and watching!!!

See ya tomorrow!!!

    West Mill out.

I'm a big fan of trains coming out of Bedford park headed by the NYC S-12! Nice transition from the single loco powered short transfer to the big mine run with the three GP7s growling their way to Hudson Coal and T&R Gravel! Your coal hoppers remind me that I want to weather the insides of my hopper fleet sometime. The rust looks great! I enjoyed following the entire sequence of moves for the loads /empties exchange performed by MR-1's trio of GP7s! The trio of GP30s was another nice power selection for the Beford Turn! The reference to the seats in the PRR unit compared to the "agreement seats" in the "Central" locos was a nice touch. Comfortable chairs for the engineers was just one of the many bones of contention about the merger! I appreciated the inclusion of the meet between BT-28 and the hotshot COFC train which made for great railfanning! And, its always a pleasure to see the well decaled tiger striped RDC in the picture! A very nice kick off to this latest PCCM series!

    1. Thank you very much PC Ralph!!!

As our old pal Engineer Ed once said "There's nothing like a coal train"! That summer I spent painting and updating my coal hoppers and weathering them has paid big dividends as I really like the way the look empty or loaded.

Thanks for bringing the "agreement seat" info to my attention many years ago!

  2. Really great start to PCCM 87! I agree with Engineer Ed, railroading and coal go hand in hand. I’ve probably seen more coal trains than all other types combined. Your fleet of hoppers look great and the upgrades really paid off. RMO is lucky to have Hudson Coal as their supplier. Looking forward to seeing your next segment 👍🚂

    1. Thanks Brian!!! Engineer Ed and I had an enjoyable time buying, painting and running coal trains. They were his absolute favorite.

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

Nice work on launching #87. The Mine Run (MR-1/MR-2) is a great train, especially with the addition of more coal hopper cars for the APRR. Those Geeps look like they are made for that train. Great to see your COFC train heading out to Selkirk. Adds to the action at Bedford, which I am sure will be a rail fan special spot to view trains!! And of course, the RDC making its appearance, as it should!
