P.C.C.M. 64 / NYCTL Part 3 / The Inbound Cycle Begins

Greetings All,

Welcome back to the P.C.C.M. 64 Series!!!

Today we begin our inbound portions of this four layout virtual op with the NYCTL receiving freight cars from
Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR
PC Ralph's Kings Port Division
and Brian's Ralston Creek RR.

On the NYCTL we'll concentrate on getting the freight cars from the above layouts into Terminal Yard, their various destinations and maybe throw in a couple of Penn Central Tidbits if appropriate. Let's get started!

Penn Central Train VN-4 from Selkirk, powered by four six axle U Boats, heads thru Empire City towards Terminal Yard.

VN-4 heads onto the High Line

VN-4 passses a late Coal Job as it runs thru Bedford NY to Terminal Yard.
PC boxcar #360158 continues to draw the attention of local police.
Leased EBRR U33C #6576 is in the VN-4 consist and helps the train climb the grade up to Terminal Yard past Hudson Coal which features some experimental PC aluminum coal hoppers.
VN-4 arrives at Terminal Yard. A Hoschton Railway RBL waits in a block of cars on track #5 and an outbound passenger train waits to depart on track #1. The HR car was painted in honor of our late friend Engineer Ed who passed away a little over one year ago.
Meanwhile a pair of detectives have their eyes on empty PC 360158 as it arrives in Terminal Yard on train VN-4.
The Yard Job starts working the VN-4. SPFE & BRMX 57' reefers from Denver on Brian's RCR layout are shoved into track five for later delivery to Terminal Warehouse & Cold Storage.
An EBRR boxcar loaded with Tivoli Beer from Denver for Ralph's Grocery Warehouse in Empire City is coupled up to a trio of empty APRR & EBRR gons going to Gervais Pipe for their first PCCM load.
The Yard Job shoves the Empire City bound cars back on track #2 to pick up a caboose. This will be PC Train EC-1 later today.
A trio of TOFC cars from Williams Yard via West Mill on Ralph's KPD layout are pulled off VN-4 and shoved into track 5 to await delivery to the TOFC track.
A covered hopper of flour from the large Cargill facility in Rock Ridge NJ on Sir Neal's APRR and a WP 40' boxcar of bulk sugar from Great Western Sugar in Denver, CO on Brian's RCR are shoved into train BT-27 for delivery to the Bedford Hostess Plant.
Empty PC 360158 going to University Millwork in Bedford & GN 3630 loaded with paint from Dupont in Denver CO for American Hardware in Bedford Park are placed at the rear of train BT-27
A six car block of covered hoppers from Cargill in Rock Ridge NJ are shoved into train EC-1 for delivery to the Empire City Cargill.
A six car block to interchange with the LIRR at North Side Yard in Empire City is shoved onto the headend of train EC-1. The Morton Salt car is from Morton Salt in Rock Ridge NJ. The other five cars are from industries on Ralph's KPD layout.
With the VN-4 cars all sorted it's time to deliver this trio of TOFC cars from Williams Yard to the Terminal Yard TOFC track.
The yard job pulls out a string of COFC and TOFC cars.
The three TOFC cars from Williams Yard are spotted for unloading. Penn Central Tidbit #1*: The PC had a big sales drive to market their TOFC trains to highway freight shippers to show the railroad provides a cheaper highway. The trustees believed this would improve the viability of the PC and the other NE railroads.
Back in the yard the crew readies to deliver this block of cars to  Terminal Warehouse & Cold Storage.
The Yard Job pulls outbound cars from the warehouse that include empty BAR 7574 and EL 5034.
The BRMX and SPFE reefers from Denver are delivered.
The Yard Job shoves the bulk of the cars from Terminal Warehouse into track 5 to depart on the next outbound train to Selkirk. Empty EL 5034 and BAR 7574 needed at Empire Produce in Empire City sit on track 6. Will they make it into train EC-1 or dwell in the yard for another day?
The Yard Job comes thru and spots the EL 5034 and BAR 7574 at the tail of train EC-1! Penn Central Tidbit #2*: Congestion in the PC yards caused unbelievably long delays for shippers. The average PC car traveled only thirty miles a day and earned revenue for less than three hours a day. But not today!
We'll cut it off here for today as the Yard Job shoves the EC-1 cars for the Empire City industries back into track #3. The EC-1 is doubled over to the front of track 5 as LIRR block is temporarily spotted there.
Tomorrow we'll focus on getting Train BT-27 on its way and start getting these freight cars delivered to their respective consignees.

Be sure to follow the action on
Sir Neal's  Atlantic Pacific RR
and Brian's Ralston Creek RR layouts!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

Inbound freight in abundance! Some really nice freight movements. The PC Tidbits are always interesting to read. Rumor has it that PC 360158 is involved in some interstate hooligans. I hope the ECPD is all over this box car. Could the feds be brought in since the car has crossed interstate lines?

Acknowledge the arrival of PC VN-4 and the work of the Yard Job with cars from the KPD.

    West Mill out.

Excellent work John! VN-4 is a big train with big power, and makes an impressive roll by in the video with great sound! Enjoyed the tidbits again in this post! It seems as if the N.Y.C.T.L. tends to manage the most cars lately but Terminal Yard crews handle it so well!

Thanks for the compliments Ralph! The NYCTL crews have enjoyed the challenge of handling the heavy traffic flow east over the last couple of PCCMs.
