Penn Central Car Movements #102 Part 5 / The PC Continues to Move The Freight

Greetings All,

Welcome Back to Penn Central Car Movements #102!!!

PCCM 102 continues today with my NYCTL interchanging freight traffic with Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR and PC Ralph's Kings Port Division.

We pick up the action today at Terminal Yard with Alco Joe called for a combined Bedford Turn (BT-27/28) and Mine Run (MR-1/2). Engine hostler Wet Willie has brought over the eclectic Alco consist from the engine terminal to power todays train.
The Bedford Turn departs Terminal Yard.
After working T&R Gravel the Turn is now at the Bedford industrial siding getting ready t make a long pull from several industries.
Conductor Murray relays the hand signals from the rear brakeman to engineer Alco Joe as they prepare to pull a cut of non PCCM cars.
Loaded PCCM freight cars are shoved into the siding. Three B&M RBLs are loaded with veneers from Eastern States Plywood in Manchester, NH are placed at University Millwork.
LV boxcar /NIRX 41000 loaded with adhesive backed paper from International Paper in Binghamton, NY and empty PC boxcar 229046 ready for its next PCCM load are spotted at Berk Enterprises.
Empty AP boxcars 58260 and 58279 and empty TP&W boxcar 70126 are spotted at Hostess for their next PCCM loads.
An empty HRC 40' boxcar is spotted at the Schaefer for its next PCCM load of the one beer to have when having more than one.
Alco Joe gets held at Bedford Station and waits to make his runaround move.
Lets see what's the hold up.
Alco Joe has the Bedford Turn back together and is out on the front porch of his RS2  as he prepares to give a roll by inspection to a priority train coming out of Terminal Yard.
I wonder what's coming out of the yard now?
And here it comes!!!
The Bedford Turn finally enters Terminal Yard.
Traffic is hot and heavy today thru Bedford as PC Train TE-16 from Selkirk gets a highball from the Bedford Tower operator.
TE-16 rumbles thru Bedford towards Terminal Yard.
The TE-16 enters Terminal Yard.
The four unit brace of Alco Centuries are spotted at the engine terminal fuel pad. This is one of my favorite PC lash ups.
The glue that holds Terminal Yard together meet and prepare to get to work on the TE-16 consist.
With Kar Knocker now finished inspecting the TE-16 freight cars Big Mike gets to work building Train EC-1, a transfer run to the Empire Belt's North Side Yard in nearby Empire City. The trio of Hi Cubes will be interchanged with the LIRR for movement to their next PCCM loads.
Now's a good time to check out the TE-16 PCCM freight cars as most of the consist will be interchanged with the LIRR and moved to off layout destinations. UPFE and two WFE 57' reefers make their PCCM debut and are headed to Nassau Community College with frozen produce from C&P Restaurant Supply in Rock Ridge, NJ.
Also headed to Nassau Community College is this four car block of TP&W boxcars loaded with restaurant supplies from, you guessed it, C&P Restaurant Supply.
A P&LE gondola with long poles and two spacer cars from Bell Pole in Bloomberg NY are headed for the Long Island Lighting Company. PC depressed center flatcar and gondola loaded with tanks from ACCO in Mayfield, NY are headed to West Chemical.
PC gondola 525702 loaded with steel coils from Kings Port Steel is heading to Mid Island Steel. KP&W and PC two bay covered hoppers are loaded with aggregate from Hedberg Aggregates in Marion NY and headed for Lombo Concrete. EL boxcar 73510 loaded with bricks from Port Owen Brick is heading to Gotham Building Supply.
The EC-1 is doubled over with cars for Empire City industries shoved into track 4.
Big Mike is done and Kar Knocker has blue flagged the train to get it ready for an early morning departure tomorrow.
A perishable protection service inspector walks the train checking the reefers. These cars won't be staying in the yard for long before being interchanged with the EBRR / LIRR so a cursory check will suffice.
Over at the engine terminal Alco Joe has a dilemma. He's first out tomorrow and will be on the EC-1. He confers with Wet Willie and verifies the four Century lash up and four old Alcos on hand will be available. What will his choice be, old dogs on their last legs or new higher horsepower units? We'll see when we check back tomorrow!!
Last but not least the 16A crew has come on duty and is spotting NPM reefer 473 loaded with frozen food from ShopRite at Consolidated Food Distributors.
Be sure to catch all of the PCCM 101 action on Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR and PC Ralph's Kings Port Division.

Thanks for reading and watching!!!
See you tomorrow!!!

I liked the clever dispatching of a combined mine run and Bedford Turn. Terminal Yard was very efficient with that one and it was a great op to follow! Newly renumbered RS2 #5229 is earning the time put into it by logging more miles on the N.Y.C.T.L.! The four Alco consist on the BT-27 was pretty cool,..as was the nice looking consist on the mixed manifest heading to Selkirk! One of the nice features of railfanning the N.Y.C.T.L. is the mix of freight and passenger trains, and the M&E train with the E8s (one still in PRR livery) did not disappoint! More eye catching lashups with the four Alco Centuries providing plenty of power for a long incoming TE-16!
Again, I appreciated the small scene references to railroad work like the perishable services inspection with the lone crewman walking the train! Great stuff all around!
