P.C.C.M. 63 / NYCTL Part 1

Greetings All,


Welcome to the 63rd Penn Central Car Movement!!

We're cranking up the engines and our three layout virtual op starts today. The NYCTL will once again be running freight cars to and from PC Ralph's Kings Port Division and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific Railroad.

Sitting in Terminal Yard on track #6 when we closed out PCCM 62 were this group of virtual ops cars ready for dispatch to the KPD and APRR . We'll get them into the next train heading out  to Selkirk but first there is other work to be done.
1/87th scale Big Mike and newly qualified conductor Robert R are called for today's Coal Job with ex PRR SD9s providing the power.
1/87th scale Robert R rides the platform of the PRR focal orange track cleaning caboose as the Coal Job leaves Terminal Yard.
First stop for the Coal Job is T&R Gravel to pull this pair of PC PS-2 covered hoppers that are loaded with locomotive sand for the APRRs Richmond Hill Engine Terminal.
Now at the more familiar environs of Hudson Coal 1/87th scale Robert R has coupled up the air hoses and the Coal Job starts pulling the loaded coal hoppers.
1/87th scale Robert R watches the loads coming out from under the loader as track 2 is pulled. Six of the loaded coal hoppers are consigned to R.M.O. Electric in Rock Ridge NJ on the APRR.
The loaded coal hoppers have been pulled and 1/87th scale John B gives Big Mike permission to cross onto Main 2. 
 The Coal Job shoves the empties back to Hudson Coal on track 2. 
 The empties are spotted and the coal cycle can continue.
1/87th scale Big Mike has coupled the SD9s back onto the loaded coal hoppers and will be ready to depart back to Terminal Yard once the RDC heading towards Bedford Station clears the main. 
The SD9s run the Coal Job up the grade to Terminal Yard with power to spare. The PRR contributed 25 SD9s originally numbered 7600-7624 and renumbered 6900-6924, to the Penn Central roster. 
The Coal Job is back at Terminal Yard. 
 The C.J. rolls thru the weigh in motion scale on track #8.
1/87th scale Big Mike has cut the engines from the Coal Job and parked the Cadillacs at the fuel pad. The SD9s got this nickname for their smooth ride.
We'll cut it here for today as the Yard Job gets to work on the loaded coal hoppers and starts blocking the freight cars for the APRR and KPD.

    A superb start to #63! The coal is needed as the plant pulled the last two loads from RR Yard over to the plant. Revenue is good on the APRR so more sand is in order! Nice touch adding the local RDC into the mix!

    Awaiting inbound to Rock Ridge Yard. All hands are ready and classification tracks are dedicated for all inbound freight!

    It looks like Coal Country railroading with the PRR "Cadillacs" and focal orange caboose! Nice informational tidbit regarding the SD9s from the Pennsy and their renumbering in the Penn Central. I especially liked the photo of all of the empties at the mine. A busy scene. A rare RDC catch on the N.Y.C.T.L.! They can get by so quickly before we get the camera out! Great start!
