P.C.C.M. 53 / Auto Rack / Auto Parts Op Part 1

Greetings All,

Today the N.Y.C.T.L. is participating in a five layout time traveler P.C.C.M. 53 /Auto Parts / Auto Racks Op which is a first for us. This op is the brainchild of 1:1 Sir Neal of the A.P.R.R. who suggested we go multi era and showcase some of our rolling stock that supports the auto industry.

Let's Get started!

Penn Central Train ML-12A rolls across the Empire City's High Line as it makes its way to towards Terminal Yard
Passing Bedford Tower with a block of 60' auto parts cars from ACME Auto Parts in Mayfield NY for the Bedford Park Ford Plant. Looks like tower operator 1/87th scale John B is trying out a new recliner!
Also consigned to the Ford Plant from ACME Auto Parts are a NYC 40' Pacemaker boxcar loaded with mufflers and a PC 40' Hi Cube boxcar loaded with more auto parts followed by two Evans Breadbox Trough Coil Coaches loaded with steel coils from Kings Port Steel. That rounds out block 1 from the Kings Port Division
Block 2 has a Penn Central Hi Cube from Gates Rubber Company in South Denver CO and a Celanese Tank Car from Celanese Chemicals in Denver that originated on the Ralston Creek Railroad and are consigned to the Bedford Park Ford Plant
Block 3 of ML-12A is a trio of empty tri level auto racks from the Atlantic Pacific Railroad's Rock Ridge Yard followed by PC Caboose 18423 bringing up the markers.
ML-12A heads thru the tunnel towards Terminal Yard.
Coming thru the tunnel into Terminal Yard
ML-12A's power has been cut off and the yard job gets to work.
Train BP-41, the Bedford Park Turn that serves the Ford Plant is just about ready to depart as we catch 1/87th scale Big Mike giving the engineer a sarcastic "I thought you were Alco Joe'' comment. Yeah, well today I'm GE Joe! answers the engineer.
BP-41 rolls past Heileman Brewery towards Bedford Park.
BP-41 starts pulling the empty 86' Auto Parts boxcars from the Ford Plant
The loaded 60'ers and one 40'er from ACME are spotted and BP-41 is pulling the loaded auto racks.
We'll close it out here for today with 1/87th scale GE Joe bringing the outbound cars back towards Terminal Yard as Train BP-12.
Tomorrow we'll catch up with the Bedford Park yard crew working the Ford Plant and get the outbound cars moving towards their respective consignees which will close out my portion of the op.
Be sure to check in on the other participants layouts as the weekend / week progresses. The guy's will be posting starting today and over the next few days.

See ya tomorrow!

Thanks for reading!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

Nice time traveler train! I like the open auto racks. Back in the day, I'm sure the automobile companies loved them as they showed consumers which cars are being sold! Now they would get damaged, for sure. I did catch the HRC car in a photo, nice touch...

Thanks Sir Neal! The automobile companies also loved the auto racks as they went from four autos per freight car to fifteen or more. Definitely cut their shipping costs and raised their profits. Vandalism and theft however reared its ugly head giving us today's covered auto racks. I always enjoy seeing the strings of empty open auto racks and the rolling showrooms of the PC era.

    West Mill out.

Great start to the auto ops with the mix of auto parts and auto racks! Liking the new tunnel portal by the way. The Kings Port Division has posted a prequel to the above.

A good looking start to PCCM 53 and the auto themed Virtual Ops. Nice exchange between Big Mike and 1:87 “ GE Joe “. Which is appropriate for this week. 1:1 GE Joe has been servicing real GE products. Really enjoyed the action with the different blocks of cars headed to the Ford Plant. Lots of great roster shots on the NYCTL!!!

Thanks for the compliments Brian. Perfect time to introduce the new 1/87th scale GE Joe! He has the coolest nicknames of all the 1/87th guys!
