Penn Central Car Movements #86 / NYCTL Part 1/ The Outbound Cycle Begins

Greetings All,

Welcome to Penn Central Car Movements #86!!!

It's hard to believe our virtual ops are on their 86th installment. The virtual ops catalyst has inspired so many train and layout projects over the years it's hard to keep track of them all. It has been a lot of fun to be a participant!!

P.C.C.M. #86 will be a two layout virtual op with my NYCTL interchanging freight cars with Ralph's Kings Port Division. Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR is out of service getting signal upgrades and we hope to have the APRR back for P.C.C.M. #87.

In this series we'll be testing some new train designations to add a little more realism to the ops and to better identify the origination and destinations of our virtual ops trains that travel between our layouts.

The outbound series opens up at Bedford Park Yard with a twenty plus year old Athearn Baldwin S12 #9314 pinch hitting for the usual Alco S4 unit assigned here.

The S12 gets busy pulling empties from the Ford Plant. LV Boxcar #8247 will be heading to Delco in Flint, Michigan via the KP&W for it's next PCCM loading.

This trio of NYC, KP&W, PC/TOC empty 60' boxcars will returning to ACME Auto Parts in Mayfield NY for their next PCCM loads.

Train BP-12 heads to Terminal Yard.

The 9314 brings BP-12 into a Terminal Yard on track #8.

Meanwhile in Empire City the LIRR is crossing the High Line as it makes it's way to the Empire Belt RR's North Side Yard.

The LIRR Transfer comes across the Empire City Viaduct

The LIRR train arrives at North Side Yard.

LIRR Caboose C-91 is reclaimed.

The LIRR Alcos ease out of North Side Yard and bring their train around the west side curve.

The LIRR Train heads back to Fresh Pond Yard

Over at Terminal Yard Train BT-27, the Bedford Turn, prepares to depart. The PC U boats were painted about six years ago and ride on twenty plus year old power chassis. The NYC U Boat is another twenty plus year old engine now on a non powered chassis.

The BT-27 passes T&R Gravel which will be it's first stop to pick up EL boxcar #73510 loaded with bagged iron ore for Port Owen Brick.

The work at T&R Gravel done the Bedford Turn enters Bedford on the secondary track.

LV/NIRX boxcar #41000 loaded with printed cartons for Blue Ribbon Flour and PC boxcar #229036 loaded with printed labels for Van Winkle Canning get pulled from Berk Enterprises as part of a long pull.

AP Boxcar #58279 get re-spotted at The Hostess-Wonder Bread Plant for continued PCCM loading.

The Bedford Turn engines head to Bedford Tower to cross onto the main for their runaround move.

The BT-27 U Boats get held for a Selkirk bound train featuring EBRR and PC U23Cs going to Selkirk for inspection.

The Turn is back together and building up air pressure.

The Bedford Turn heads back to Terminal Yard.

We'll close it out today with Train BT-27 arriving in Terminal Yard.

We'll pick it up tomorrow at North Side Yard with the Empire Belt RR working the Empire City rail served industries.

Be sure to catch the action on Ralph's Kings Port Division!!!!

Thanks for reading and watching!!!
See ya tomorrow!!!

    Rock Ridge Yard Out!

What a nice surprise to see that Baldwin S-12 working the run. Looks like it had more power to pull a lot more freight!
The string of U-Boats going thru Bedford was nice and as I have said in the past, I think it’s the best place to railfan the railroad! Always love to see the LIRR RS units in action working that freight. Lots of AP and EB freight cars in motion!

The APRR has its crews working around the clock to get the signal upgrades working. Incentives have been offered to get the work completed quickly!

Wow! An action packed installment with several well arranged and filmed train meets! Definitely a railfan fest today! Nice acknowledgement and demonstration of well maintained older Athearn units smoothly taking care of business on the N.Y.C.T.L.! The U Boats on the long Bedford Turn looked and ran beautifully in your roll by video! I've watched the videos in this installment twice already and look forward to seeing them again! Great collections of rolling stock on the Selkirk bound trains. An excellent post all around!

Thank you very much PC Ralph!!! The "vintage" Blue Box units that are the core of the fleet got their day in the spotlight! There were a few repairs and maintenance issues prior to the filming but these older units rank high among my favorites.
