Welcome back to the Penn Central Car Movements Series #73!!!
P.C.C.M. #73, a three layout virtual op with my N.Y.C.T.L. interchanging freight cars with PC Ralph's Kings Port Division and Sir Neal's Atlantic Pacific RR closes the outbound portion today on the N.Y.C.T.L.
We start our day at Terminal Yard with the yard job working on the freight cars brought in yesterday on EBRR Train EB-2.Two empty coil coaches and a gondola of pipe for HVAC will be going to Williams Yard as part of Block#1 for the Kings Port Division train.
Freight cars for Rock Ridge Yard are shoved into track 4 for the Atlantic Pacific RR train.
AP 60394 and 60382 going to C&P Restaurant Supply in Rock Ridge NJ are shoved into the APRR train.
Freight cars for Binghamton and Mayfield NY via West Mill Yard are blocked into the K.P.D train.
52' gons, APRR 8203 and EBRR 5289, loaded with pipe for Shapeless Steel in Rock Ridge NJ are shoved into the APRR train.
The yard job works a long cut of cars to block EBRR boxcar #360279 going to International Paper in Rochester NY into the K.P.D. train.
Empty PC gondolas 576104 and 576123 are spotted at the Terminal Yard engine facility for loading with scrap.
Over at the Pier 16 Yard the switcher is busy working Bruce Electric Equipment.
Three PC RBLs loaded with automobile electrical wiring and components for IDEAL Auto Parts are being pulled out of the siding. They'll join PC Hi Cube 272747 loaded with electrical parts for American Hardware. All are going to the A.P.R.R.
The four PC cars are dropped here for pick up and placement in the A.P.R.R. train.
We're back with the Terminal Yard yard job and catch them pulling three T.O.F.C cars for Williams Yard.
The TOFC cars are coupled up to the four PC cars from Bruce Electric.
Over in the yard tracks we see that some trains have been dispatched opening up much needed yard space. Long trains for the APRR and KPD now occupy tracks 1 and 2 respectively.
The yard job now works Terminal Warehouse and Cold Storage pulling a long string of P.C.C.M. cars from the siding.
AP 86035 joins NYC 67086 going back to IDEAL Auto Parts in Rock Ridge NJ for reloading.
The outbound trains are set and the yard is in pretty good shape.
The last switching move will be with NYC Hi Cube 173861.
The empty NYC Hi Cube is spotted at Bruce Electric Equipment for its next P.C.C.M. load.
It's time to get these trains moving!! Power has been coupled on to both trains. The A.P.R.R. train gets a pair of GP40s and the K.P.D. train has a pair of GP38-2s.

Looks like Ideal Auto Parts is going to be a very busy industry once the freight arrives at Rock Ridge. Geeps on parade? That’s a mighty sharp trio of GP38-2 engines headed to Selkirk. Terminal Yard looks ready to receive some inbound freight. Nice work!

Acknowledge two trains dispatched to Selkirk forwarding cars to Rock Ridge Yard and the Kings Port Division.

Terminal Yard was looking pretty full and busy at the outset but crews performed admirably getting those trains rolling, so by the time trains were dispatched to Selkirk for this series it looked nearly empty! Full yards do not make money, they say, so revenue is being generated in Empire City! The KPD appreciates the thoughtful blocking of the trains cars can be easily set off at the interchange in Kings Port for Williams Yard.

Excellent start to another what looks to be great series. Btw: PCCM 72 was a GREAT read! ... Car Cards for me, make the ops. much more enjoyable giving purpose to every car movement. I had my system figured out before I even started bench work. It's a very simple system where I write the car's abbreviated reporting marks on the waybill, which is a stock business card. The only other writing is to schedule the car's pickup.This generates a switchlist. I use a 3x 5 card. After a while it may look like a lot of writing, but it really isn't. Since I am not computerized, the biggest drawal back I found is the switch list pickup times are scrambled and I have to 'audit' the list to make sure I got everything. It does add structure and FUN to the ops. ... With your state opening up, Please be wise and safe! We're on ground 0 here in Pa. Up until recently, Montgomery County was the hardest hit area in the state. Philly now has that honor. It's striking too close for comfort for me. My wife was told to be tested; but she feels it's just Bronchitis which she gets often. My Mom, 83 and in a nursing home has it. All thanks to God, her only symptom so far, was a fever on Easter Sunday. With all due respect to you, from afar, it seems a little early to open up and your Governor doesn't strike me as the brightest light on the tree; especially after his comment when he closed the state, about he just learned the virus can be spread by Asymptomatic people. He's only about 2 1/2 mos. behind the times. Anyway, be safe and good health to you and your peeps.

Very true and very challenging. Having a switch list does make it go smoother. I have not combined the switch list with cards yest but may do that as this P.C.C.M. progresses.

Thank you for your well wishes. ...Re: car cards. Admittedly, I am not much of a modeler. You could say I'm not a railroad modeler, but I am a model RAIL ROADER! I always looked at my layouts as a ' never ending chess game.' My Dad was a true modeler, right down to the micrometer. He built 'em, I played with 'em! Well I'm not really that bad! Keep the steel wheels rolling!

DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the waybill and car card series! It has been a fun learning experience and has added quite a lot to my own model railroad ops. Definitely some learning curves but so far so good.
