Piedmont Pilgrimage 2016 Report

Greetings All,

On Saturday October 29th Engineer Ed and myself took advantage of the train layout open houses conducted by our local NMRA which is known as the Piedmont Pilgrimage. Ed and I took a road trip and visited two excellent layouts.

Our first stop was Eric Siegel's O scale Appalachian & Western RR. Eric is well known is modeling circles and especially in the O scale community. Visit Eric's channel on youtube; https://www.youtube.com/user/esiegel76

Here are some photos of Eric's basement empire;

Our second stop was the home of Master Model Railroader Bill Zawacki. Bill's HO scale Little Towne Railroad is a beautifully detailed layout with many eye catching scenes and flawless operation.

Here are some photos of Bill'S L.T.R.R. ;

On behalf of Ed and myself we would like to extend a thank you to the family and friends of the Siegel and Zawacki families who graciously opened their homes and layouts to us. At both houses we were warmly welcomed. Food and beverages were available for visitors which was very nice. And thank you to the Piedmont Division of the NMRA who put this all together.

Thanks for reading!

  1. It's interesting that layout tours in your area have such good layouts. We have a guy in my area who puts together tours, but for whatever reason, the best layouts stay out, while the ones that are shown are mediocre at best -- and nobody is friendly, no refreshments, for instance.

  2. Hi John, Check out the link and you'll see some very well known layouts that were featured in Model Railroader etc. We were very pleasantly surprised by the hospitality of our hosts and the quality of their layouts. http://piedmontpilgrimage.com/

    1. Both Ed and I would agree Ralph. We had a great time and came away with many ideas for our own layouts.
