Penn Central Car Movement #35D / The Virtual Ops Returns to the N.Y.C.T.L.!

Greetings All,

As the headline says the Virtual Ops have returned to the N.Y.C.T.L. with P.C.C.M. #35D! The P.C.C.M. 35 series originated on Ralph's Kings Port Division and can be found here;
http://kingsportdivision.blogspot.com/ . If you have not yet checked out Ralph's beautiful layout do yourself a favor and take a look. It will be well worth your time.

Today we'll focus on the arrival of PC Train VN-4 (Selkirk to Terminal Yard). P.C.C.M. #35C covered PC Train WV-2 (Weehawken to Selkirk) with a block of cars from Ralph's West Mill Yard for my Terminal Yard. These cars were in theory interchanged at Selkirk and forwarded to my layout via train VN-4.

Let's pick up the action on the Empire City High Line as PC Train VN-4 heads to Terminal Yard behind two EMD GP30s.
VN-4 stretches thru Empire City with steel coils for Gervais Pipe, a Rock Island boxcar for Ralph's Grocery Warehouse and a Cargill covered hopper for....Cargill! The Bedford Park block starts with the two NYC 50' boxcars from Peerless Appliance, the NYC 86' boxcar from ACME Auto Parts and the white AP 50' RBL from Corning Glass loaded with windshields for Ford.
The Bedford Block. PC 16050, TPFX 5510, NYC 40' hi cube box and the blue B&M RBL car sandwich two empty T.O.F.C. flats.
VN-4 passing Bedford Station and meeting train LS-3 bound for Chicago led by CB&Q Pool Power that will be heading back to their home rails.
PC GP30s pass empty reefers heading for the Chicago stock yards and meat processing facilities.
VN-4 climbing the grade to Terminal Yard passing the newly opened Hudson Coal. The mountains were recently painted to show more of a tree canopy. Still needs more green for the camera.
T&R Gravel is also back on line and the mountains here were also painted to reflect some vegetation.
VN-4 enters an enhanced Terminal Yard entrance.
The ACI scanner records the arrival of the freight cars so equipped.
A little more interesting to see the train arrive with some type of scenic elements. And a lot more fun to work the yard!
Last but not least the caboose is recorded as entering Terminal Yard.
With VN-4 now clear of the yard throat the Terminal Yard Switcher crew pulls these empty coal cars from track 3 for the quick trip to an anxiously waiting Hudson Coal.
Coal hoppers from the Swap Meet are now being put to the test.
The cars are shoved into Hudson Coal without incident and are now ready for loading.

Thanks for Reading!!!

Next installments will cover the breaking down of the cars in train VN-4 and their deliveries to our local consignees.

  1. A very impressive premier of the resumption of virtual ops on the N.Y.C.T.L.! Panoramic shots prove the layout survived the recent shutdown ad looks great! Actually it looks better than ever with the enhanced backdrop work by Hudson Coal and T&G Gravel, and the addition of structures at Terminal Yard. The buildings are an effective scenic treatment for the entrance to the yard! Lots of action with the meet with LS-3 and its cool looking consist and the string of reefers. And, a terrific way for your recently purchased coal hoppers to make their debut at the reopened Hudson Coal...which looks to be very busy now! Fantastic!

  2. I have to agree with PC Ralph. VN-4 is looking good behind those GP30's rolling thru the new scenery and details you've added to the layout. The pedestrian bridge at Terminal Yard is a nice touch. The pool power heading back to Chicago adds continuity to your operations. The new hoppers look great as well. Hudson coal will fill them up in no time. Great post and now the work begins, getting VN-4 delivered to the various local businesses.

  3. Another great VO in the books. I had a fantastic afternoon getting to not only see all the new scenic details but to run some trains as well. While the photos are terrific they just don't do justice in capturing the big picture of the layout with all the new changes. The new coal hoppers look awesome. Hudson coal will surely be operating 3 shifts just to keep up with demand. Big thanks for all the work involved in researching and executing the operations. Very enjoyable.
