N.Y.C.T.L. Back in Operation!

Greetings All,

Good news to report today. The N.Y.C.T.L. is back in operation! After a two week hiatus the layout is back together and trains are running on a limited basis. But they are running!

The new main water pipe into the house can be seen in the upper left. The white access panel hides the water pressure reducing valve and the valves for turning off the main and front hose bib. Much neater than having them hanging from the ceiling.
Terminal Yard is now empty of all the boxes, structures and 'stuff' that was being temporarily stored here. Oops, I just remembered I still need to vacuum this portion of the yard.
After the plumbing project I vacuumed the stripped down layout and then vacuumed the individual buildings before placing them back on the layout.
Neat and clean, but eerily bare of 1/87th scale life.
My next assignment is to replace the 1/87th scale figures, vehicles and most importantly the trains. I'll need to consult with the Dispatch Sheet to help remember what is supposed to be where for the Penn Central Car Movements aka the virtual ops.
The greening of the mountain can now resume. Need to get my artist here asap!
Vehicles and more vehicles! 1/87th scale people, cars, trucks and construction equipment fill these boxes.
At the end of the day with the Mets game in the books the first train ran on the layout.
Well how do you like that?! The layout is not even in operation for ten minutes and already we see someone has been whacked. Not sure what happened here yet but the investigation has just begun.
The ceremonial Empire City viaduct publicity photo.
And to those modelers with duplicate numbers on some of their rolling stock I offer this as proof that it is prototypical.

Thanks for reading!!!

  1. It's good to see the NYCTL back in business! I can't imagine how big of a job that must have been. The first train is looking good on home rails. You need a 1/87 Emery trackside recording the big event. I see your "social club " is already back to their bad behaviors. Too funny about the 1/1 scale duplicate numbers. I wouldn't have guessed the EL to be guilty of it.

    1. Thanks Brian! Looks like the gangsters were at play while the cops were away. I would love a 1/87th scale Emery to catch the rail action. He could probably pick up a few bucks as a crime scene photographer! How about those numbers! I immediately thought of you when I saw the photo based on our prior conversations.

  2. A big welcome back from the Kings Port Division! Very glad to see the N.Y.C.T.L. survived the big plumbing project without incident! I've often noticed how "alive" your scenes are with people and vehicles so its a bit like a "Twilight Zone" episode to see your streets and tracks bare in the first pics! Wouldn't you know the criminal element is the first to appear when things start getting back to normal. The E.C.P.D. seems to have things well in hand though. Speaking of Dispatch Sheets I think the next virtual ops move will be coming from me. Stay tuned. Meanwhile enjoy having trains run again on the layout!

  3. Thank You Ralph! The Twilight Zone sums up the ghost town of Empire City very nicely! I still need to 'find' some of the trains I squirreled away. They're in a safe place is all that I know right now. You're right the K.P.D. is up for starting the next P.C.C.M. Looking forward to getting the layout back into the virtual ops!

  4. Welcome back from the dark side. Very happy to hear the plumbing job went well and the layout survived nicely. Although the absence of 1:87 life on the layout makes it look like one of those sci-fi movies where all life has on earth has vanished. I must say I am not surprised that the first sign of "life" was a whacked wise guy given all the criminal activity surrounding that Social Club over the years. The new yard is looking good and I can't wait to see it in action.
